To use a Flashforge 3D printer, select the slicer and printer profile that match your exact model, prepare the model file, choose the loaded filament and a process preset, then slice and send the job by USB or a supported network connection. Hardware setup is model-specific, so use the manual for your printer for filament loading, bed preparation, leveling, calibration, and controls.
1. Choose a slicer that supports your printer
Flashforge has more than one slicer and not every application or profile applies to every printer. Check your model’s official support page and choose a compatible application and printer profile. FlashPrint’s first-use workflow asks you to select the corresponding printer type; Flashforge describes Flash Studio Desktop as its official slicer for currently supported models. See Flashforge’s FlashPrint guide and Flash Studio software overview.
Flash Studio Desktop’s quick-start guide lists support for .3mf, .stl, .stp, .step, and .svg files. Check the guide for your selected application if your model is in another format. Flash Studio Desktop Quick Start Guide
2. Import a model and set the print options
Load or open the model
Open a model file in the slicer. If you are learning FlashPrint, its guide points to sample STL files under File > Examples. Confirm the model appears correctly on the virtual build plate before moving on.

Match the printer, nozzle, and filament
Set the exact printer model and nozzle size, then choose the material that is actually loaded in the printer. The slicer’s settings need to match the physical setup; a mismatch can make the print settings inappropriate for the job. Filament availability and requirements vary by printer, so verify material and size compatibility in the model’s manual or Flashforge’s Filament Guide before buying or loading filament.
Choose a process or layer-height preset
Select a process preset suited to the model and your goal. Flashforge’s Studio guide gives 0.20 mm as a standard layer-height starting point for many models using a 0.4 mm nozzle. It is a starting preset, not a guarantee of quality for every printer, material, or model. A smaller layer height generally takes longer to print. Flash Studio Desktop Quick Start Guide

3. Slice and inspect the preview
Slicing converts the model and selected settings into instructions the printer can use. In FlashPrint, check the machine type shown at the lower left, set the nozzle and material, and start slicing. In Flash Studio Desktop, review the sliced preview and estimates such as filament use and print time before sending the job. Use the preview to check that the model and settings look as intended; do not treat estimated time or material use as an exact promise.

4. Send the sliced job to the printer
| Transfer path | What it involves | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| USB | Export the sliced file to USB and use it with the printer, where supported. | Follow the printer’s manual and slicer prompts for the supported file and USB workflow. |
| Remote sending | Send through the slicer when the printer and software support a network workflow. FlashPrint’s guide requires the printer and computer to be on the same network for its remote workflow. | Connection and setup steps depend on the model and software version. |
| Network or LAN mode | Flash Studio Desktop documents network mode, which sends files through a cloud server, and LAN mode, which transfers over the local network. | Use the mode available for your printer and follow the current software prompts. |
USB and remote options are not universal across all Flashforge printers. Consult the matching software guide and printer manual for the supported transfer method. FlashPrint guide; Flash Studio Desktop Quick Start Guide; Orca-Flashforge Quick Start Guide

The software guides do not establish one set of universal hardware steps for every Flashforge model. Before starting a physical print, use the manual for your exact printer for filament loading, bed preparation, leveling, calibration, preheating, and printer controls. Do not assume that a menu path or setup procedure for one model applies to another.

AD5X multi-color printing with Orca-Flashforge
This is a model-specific workflow, not a general step for all Flashforge printers. For AD5X multi-color printing, configure the filament types and colors, set up the model, and map the configured colors to the printer’s channels. Leave Enable IFS selected when using IFS. A channel cannot be selected if its filament type does not match the sliced file or no filament is loaded. Flashforge also cautions that filaments with a large temperature difference may not slice together, giving PLA and ABS as an example. See Flashforge’s AD5X Orca-Flashforge instructions.
