Short answer: YouTube does not document a built-in way to import a CSV of prerecorded videos and have them play on a 24/7 live stream. You need a separate playout tool or scheduler that can read your CSV, plus an encoder or cloud service that sends the resulting video feed to YouTube. Before building a workflow around any product, confirm that it imports your CSV format and how it interprets each row.
Understand what YouTube schedules—and what it does not
YouTube treats a live broadcast and its incoming video feed as related but separate resources. A broadcast is the live event and watch page; a stream is the audiovisual feed sent to YouTube. The Live Streaming API associates a broadcast with a video stream. YouTube’s documented workflow is to create a broadcast with its title, scheduled start time, and privacy status; create a stream with transmission settings; bind the broadcast to that stream; and move the broadcast through states such as testing and live. See the Live Streaming API documentation and Life of a Broadcast.
That event schedule does not create a schedule for playing individual video files. The YouTube documentation linked above does not describe a native CSV import for scheduling prerecorded videos within a continuous feed. The CSV, if your chosen tool supports it, belongs to a separate playout layer.
Choose where the CSV playlist will run
| Option | Where playback runs | What sends the feed to YouTube | CSV support |
|---|---|---|---|
| Local playout | On your computer or standalone hardware, using your media and playlist software | A software or hardware encoder connected to YouTube | Depends on the scheduler you choose; verify its current documentation |
| Cloud playout | On a service’s cloud infrastructure, using its playlist tools | The cloud service sends the feed to YouTube | Depends on the service; the vendor pages below do not establish CSV import |
YouTube’s Help guidance describes selecting a software or standalone hardware encoder and connecting it with a stream URL and stream key. A scheduled Studio event creates and promotes the event and its watch page; the encoder supplies the video. Read YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.

Local setup: keep the playout system running
A local workflow can suit you if you want direct control over the playback setup or already have a machine and encoder available. Your computer or hardware unit must stay on and connected for the feed to continue. The scheduler plays the files; the encoder transmits the resulting feed. A YouTube event by itself does neither job.
Cloud setup: move playback off your computer
A cloud playout service can run a playlist without requiring your own computer to stay online. Its playlist functions, scheduling controls, and CSV support are product-specific; a vendor’s description of playlists does not prove that it accepts CSV files. For example, Upstream describes always-on and scheduled streams from prerecorded videos, with playlists that can loop in order or shuffle. LiveReacting describes playlists of prerecorded videos scheduled by date or repeat, running from its servers. Looping Stream describes uploading files, arranging a playlist, choosing an RTMP destination, and running a continuous cloud feed. These are vendor descriptions, not independent reliability tests; none of these pages establishes CSV import support.

Verify CSV compatibility before preparing your schedule
There is no universal CSV schema for video playout. A file that looks like a schedule may represent one video per row, one broadcast per row, a start time, a duration, or some combination. Do not assume that a scheduler will read your file correctly just because it supports playlists or scheduled streams.
- Does the current product documentation explicitly say it imports CSV files?
- What does each row represent: a media file, a broadcast, a playback order, a start time, or a duration?
- What column names, date format, time format, and required fields does it expect?
- Which time zone does it use, and how does it handle daylight-saving changes?
- How does it handle repeated entries, missing files, overlapping times, and gaps between scheduled items?
- Do edits to the CSV update a playlist that is already running, or must you import it again?
- Can you preview or validate the import before it controls a live feed?
If the product does not document these details, ask its support team or test with a small, non-public playlist before relying on it for a live schedule. The format and behavior must come from the scheduler you choose; YouTube’s broadcast setup does not define them.

Set up the YouTube event and connect the feed
- Build and validate your media schedule in the playout tool. Import the CSV only if the tool confirms that it supports your file’s schema. Check the order, timing, time zone, and file availability in its preview or equivalent controls.
- Create the live event in YouTube Studio or through the Live Streaming API. Set the title, start time, and privacy status for the broadcast. In Studio, follow YouTube’s current live-stream setup flow; API users should follow the documented create-broadcast, create-stream, and bind-broadcast steps in the Live Streaming API.
- Configure the incoming stream. Use the stream settings provided for the event and copy the stream URL and stream key into the encoder or cloud playout service. Treat the key as a credential: do not publish it or include it in a shared CSV.
- Start the playout feed and check the event. Confirm that the encoder or service is sending video, YouTube is receiving it, and the event shown to viewers is the intended one. API users can retrieve stream status to check whether YouTube is receiving data, as described in the liveStreams resource reference.
- Go live according to the event workflow. Complete the required testing and transition steps for your Studio or API setup. Creating a scheduled event alone does not start media playback or guarantee that a feed is arriving.
Plan continuity separately from the broadcast end time
The API reference says that if a scheduled end time is omitted, YouTube treats the broadcast as continuing indefinitely. That is an event setting, not a promise that video will keep arriving. Continuous playback still depends on the playout system, encoder or cloud worker, and its connection to YouTube. A stopped computer, failed worker, unavailable media file, or interrupted feed can stop delivery even if the broadcast has no scheduled end time. See the broadcasts resource reference.
Troubleshoot the common failure points
- The CSV will not import: Check the product’s documented column names, date and time formats, required fields, and file paths. Playlist support alone does not establish CSV support.
- Videos play at the wrong time: Confirm the scheduler’s time zone and date interpretation, then check for daylight-saving changes and overlapping entries.
- The YouTube event exists, but no video appears: A broadcast is the event, not the feed. Confirm that the encoder or cloud service is running and connected using the correct stream URL and key, then check whether YouTube reports incoming data.
- The feed stops despite an indefinite event: Check the computer or cloud worker, the upstream connection, and the playback queue. An indefinite broadcast end setting does not restart a failed encoder or restore a broken playlist.
- The wrong event receives the feed: Verify that the active encoder or service is bound to the intended broadcast and that the event’s watch page and privacy status are correct.
- A scheduled video is missing: Check the media file’s availability in the location used by the playout tool and inspect its handling of missing files; do not assume later entries will continue automatically.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a YouTube stream made from uploaded videos, StreamNeo offers a cloud alternative to maintaining your own encoder computer. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It does not go live from a camera and streams to YouTube only.

Does a scheduled YouTube broadcast play my videos automatically?
No. The broadcast is the event and watch page. A separate encoder or cloud playout service must send the audiovisual feed.
Will a scheduler that supports playlists also support CSV?
Not necessarily. Confirm CSV import and the expected format in the specific product’s current documentation.
