A cloud video playout service can keep a YouTube Live broadcast supplied with prerecorded videos without leaving a computer or encoder running at home. Prepare content you have the rights to use, connect the service to your YouTube channel—typically by authorizing YouTube or entering an RTMP stream URL and key—then arrange the playlist, start the broadcast, and monitor both the service dashboard and YouTube Live Control Room.
What cloud video playout does
A cloud playout service hosts the video-delivery process: it sends uploaded or imported media to a YouTube Live destination according to a playlist, loop, or schedule supported by that provider. It is an alternative to running an encoder such as OBS continuously on a local computer. YouTube describes an encoder this way: “An encoder converts your video into a digital format to stream on YouTube.” YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Provider controls are not universal. Some services document direct YouTube authorization; others accept a custom RTMP destination and stream key. Looping, scheduled starts and stops, monitoring, and recovery options also vary, so verify the current feature set and plan before choosing a provider.
How to set up an always-on YouTube stream

Confirm livestreaming is enabled
Check that your channel can livestream before preparing a long-running broadcast. YouTube says first-time live streaming activation can take up to 24 hours. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.

Prepare media you have the right to broadcast
Use video and music for which you have the necessary rights, including applicable music rights. Uploading a file to a playout service does not grant permission to stream it. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content and may interrupt or terminate a broadcast when it detects a match. Its guidance states: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams.

Create or connect the YouTube destination
In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create a stream or schedule one. If your provider offers direct YouTube authorization, follow its connection flow. If it uses an encoder or custom RTMP workflow, copy the stream URL and stream key supplied by YouTube into the provider’s destination settings. Treat the key as a password: do not publish it or share it with people who should not control your broadcast. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update the provider.

Build and verify the playlist
Upload or import media in a format accepted by the selected service, put items in the intended order, and configure looping if available. If the service supports schedules, confirm the start, stop, and playlist-change times and the time zone. The playout.video guide documents automatic playlist looping by default and scheduled starts, stops, and playlist changes; other providers may behave differently. Provider setup guide.

Start the cloud broadcast and check both sides
Start the stream in the provider’s dashboard, then verify that the provider reports a connected or running destination and that YouTube Live Control Room receives the broadcast. Check the preview and audio before relying on the stream. Keep the provider dashboard available for status information; a dashboard’s running indicator is not a guarantee of uninterrupted delivery.

Decide how you will preserve replays
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If complete replays matter, plan shorter broadcast sessions or a separate recording and backup workflow rather than assuming a continuous 24/7 broadcast will leave a complete YouTube archive. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive backup. YouTube Help: Archive live streams.

What to check when choosing a cloud playout service
- YouTube connection: Does it authorize your channel directly, or require an RTMP URL and stream key?
- Playlist handling: Can you upload or import your media, order it, and loop it? Confirm supported media formats and any storage limits with the provider.
- Scheduling: Can you set broadcast start and stop times or schedule playlist changes? Check whether scheduling is included in the plan you intend to use.
- Status visibility and recovery: What does the service show when a destination disconnects, and what recovery behavior does it document? Provider claims are not a substitute for checking the live status in YouTube.
- Output and archive workflow: Confirm available output settings and how you can retain recordings if YouTube does not archive a very long stream.
YouTube’s encoder directory identifies Gyre as an option for 24/7 prerecorded streaming. A listing is not an endorsement: YouTube notes that listed encoders are not made by YouTube. A provider’s guide can explain its controls, but documentation alone does not establish comparative reliability or independently measured uptime.
Copyright, originality, and monetization
Rights and monetization eligibility are separate questions
Having permission to stream material addresses rights, but it does not by itself guarantee that a channel qualifies for monetization. YouTube’s July 15, 2025 policy note renamed its repetitious-content policy to “inauthentic content” and clarified that repetitive or mass-produced material is covered. Monetized content should be original and authentic; interchangeable programming with little creative, educational, or other value may be ineligible. The reused-content policy is distinct from copyright enforcement. Review YouTube’s channel monetization policies.

Do not treat continuous broadcasting as guaranteed income
YouTube says eligible monetized livestreams may earn through ads and fan-funding features such as Super Chat, Super Stickers, and memberships where available. Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve. YouTube reported an average uplift of over 20% in instream ad revenue per hour for channels that enabled live automatic mid-roll ads compared with channels that did not, across 207 countries in January 2024. That is a platform-reported historical average, not a forecast or promise for an individual channel. YouTube Help: Manage mid-roll ad breaks in live streams.
Common setup problems and fixes
- YouTube does not receive the stream: Confirm livestream activation is complete, the correct stream or scheduled event is selected, and the provider has the matching YouTube destination. If using RTMP, check that the stream URL and key were copied accurately; replace an exposed or stale key and update the provider.
- The provider says connected but the YouTube preview is missing: Check the selected Live Control Room event, destination status, and provider output settings. Stop and restart only after verifying the target event and credentials.
- Playback stops at the end of a playlist: Confirm looping is enabled and supported by that provider, then review playlist order and whether any item failed to upload or import.
- A scheduled change happens at the wrong time: Check the schedule’s time zone and whether the provider supports the particular scheduled action. Recheck its current documentation because scheduling controls differ.
- The stream is interrupted or terminated: Check YouTube’s Live Control Room for notices, including possible third-party-content matches, and review the rights for every video and audio track. A cloud host cannot remove a rights issue.
- The full broadcast is not available as a replay: Check the duration. YouTube warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all; use shorter sessions or a separate recording plan when a complete replay is important.
