Add the Boolean multiple attribute to a file input to let a user select more than one file. To submit those files, use a multipart HTML form or read the input’s files property in JavaScript; the attribute itself does not upload anything or provide server-side handling.
Allow multiple file selection
Use type="file" with the multiple attribute. Give the input a name if its files will be submitted with a form, and connect a visible label to it:

<input id="uploads" name="uploads" type="file" multiple>The file picker’s controls and the exact way to select several items depend on the user’s operating system and browser. The WHATWG HTML Standard describes this input state as representing a list of selected files, each with a filename, file type, and file body.
Submit files with a standard HTML form
For a straightforward upload after the user submits a form, set the form method to post and its encoding type to multipart/form-data:

</form>The browser submits the selected files to the form’s destination. Your server must provide that endpoint and handle the multipart request, including any upload limits and validation required by the application. HTML alone does not implement those server-side steps.
Read selected files with JavaScript
Use the input’s files property to get the selected entries as a FileList of File objects. A change event is a common place to inspect the selection, display filenames, or prepare previews:

</script>For the selected files themselves, use input.files, not input.value. If JavaScript needs to send the files with custom request behavior, it can build a request using FormData; the receiving server still needs to accept and process the upload.
Guide the picker with accepted file types
Add accept when you want the picker to guide users toward likely file types. It can list extensions, MIME types, or broad categories:
