Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →To save Cypress failure screenshots from a GitHub Actions run, add an actions/upload-artifact step after the Cypress run and point it at cypress/screenshots, Cypress’s default screenshot folder. Use if-no-files-found: ignore if successful runs may have no screenshots.
Upload screenshots with a GitHub Actions workflow
This workflow uses Cypress’s official GitHub Action and uploads the default screenshot directory. Cypress captures screenshots when tests fail during cypress run by default.
name: Cypress tests
on: [push, pull_request]
jobs:
cypress:
runs-on: ubuntu-latest
steps:
- name: Checkout
uses: actions/checkout@v4
- name: Cypress run
uses: cypress-io/github-action@v7
- name: Upload Cypress screenshots
uses: actions/upload-artifact@v7
with:
name: cypress-screenshots
path: cypress/screenshots
if-no-files-found: ignore
The important ordering is that the upload step follows the Cypress step, so it can collect files created during the test run. The Cypress action’s documentation includes this artifact-upload pattern: Cypress GitHub Action.
Choose when the upload step runs
Upload on every run
With no if condition on the upload step, GitHub runs it after a successful Cypress run as well as after a failed one. Since passing tests usually produce no failure screenshots, if-no-files-found: ignore avoids a warning in that case.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Upload only after a failure
To make screenshots available only when the job has failed, add this condition to the upload step:
- name: Upload Cypress screenshots
if: failure()
uses: actions/upload-artifact@v7
with:
name: cypress-screenshots
path: cypress/screenshots
if-no-files-found: ignore
This is useful when you want to avoid creating an artifact for passing runs. GitHub Actions conditions affect whether a step runs after an earlier step fails, so place the conditional upload after Cypress and use the failure condition deliberately. The Cypress action documentation demonstrates this approach.

Set the artifact path to Cypress’s screenshot folder
Cypress’s default screenshotsFolder is cypress/screenshots. If your Cypress configuration changes that setting, update the artifact action’s path to the configured directory; otherwise the action will look in the wrong place. The Cypress configuration reference documents the folder setting and screenshot-on-failure default.
For example, if your configuration sets screenshotsFolder to artifacts/e2e-shots, set the upload input to path: artifacts/e2e-shots.

Understand Cypress screenshot behavior in CI
screenshotOnRunFailuredefaults totrueforcypress run. Set it tofalsein Cypress configuration to disable automatic failure screenshots.- Cypress clears the contents of its screenshots folder before a run by default. Set
trashAssetsBeforeRuns: falseonly if preserving files already in that folder is intentional. - Video recording is disabled by default. If you enable it and want to retain recordings, upload the video folder as a separate artifact; the Cypress action documentation shows a separate
cypress-videosartifact example.
These defaults and options are described in the Cypress configuration reference and Cypress screenshots and videos guide.
Choose artifact handling and retention
What to do when no screenshots exist
if-no-files-found accepts ignore, warn, or error; its default is warn. Use ignore when an empty folder is normal on successful runs. Choose warn if you want to notice that no files were uploaded, or error if missing screenshots should fail the job.

How long artifacts remain available
GitHub documents 90 days as the default artifact and log retention period. Repository, organization, and enterprise settings can affect retention, and an individual upload can request a retention period with retention-days. The effective period is subject to the applicable settings and limits. GitHub’s current documentation lists limits of 1–90 days for public repositories and 1–400 days for private repositories, subject to higher-level policy; check your repository settings before relying on a specific expiry date. See GitHub’s artifact storage documentation.
For instance, you can request a shorter retention period by adding retention-days: 14 under with. That is a requested setting, not a guarantee that overrides repository or organization policy.

Deletion and GitHub Enterprise Server
Deleting a workflow run deletes its associated artifacts. Also check the upload action’s compatibility notes if you use GitHub Enterprise Server: the current upload-artifact documentation says v4 and later are not supported on GHES and identifies compatible v3.2.2 variants. Confirm the applicable version guidance for your GHES environment before selecting an action version.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Troubleshoot missing or unexpected screenshots
- No artifact appears after a failed test: Confirm the upload step comes after Cypress, and that the workflow’s artifact path matches the configured
screenshotsFolder. - The folder exists but contains no screenshots: Check that the job runs
cypress run, thatscreenshotOnRunFailurehas not been set tofalse, and that a test failure actually occurred. - Earlier screenshots disappear: Cypress clears the screenshot folder before a run by default. Set
trashAssetsBeforeRuns: falseif keeping existing files is required. - Upload warns that no files were found: This is expected if no tests failed and no other screenshots were written. Set
if-no-files-found: ignorewhen that outcome is normal. - The artifact upload fails on GHES: Verify the upload action version against its GHES compatibility guidance; v4 and later are not supported there according to the current action documentation.
- You expected a video artifact: Cypress does not record videos by default. Configure video recording separately, then add a separate upload step for its output directory.
Or skip the browser setup: capture a page with ScreenshotNeo
If your task is to capture a website rather than retain screenshots from Cypress tests, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request returns an image or PDF, and its API documentation covers the available options.
Quick Recap
