To upload a recorded video to YouTube over a slow or unreliable broadband connection, use YouTube Studio on a computer or the YouTube app on Android, keep the original file unchanged, and let the transfer finish if possible. If it is interrupted, YouTube says you can continue from where it stopped for up to 24 hours by selecting the same file at youtube.com/upload. A saved livestream recording uploads like any other video file; starting a live broadcast is a separate process.
Upload a video from a computer
- Sign in to YouTube Studio.
- Select Create, then Upload videos.
- Select the saved video file from your computer and wait for the transfer to begin.
- Complete the requested details, including the title and audience setting. Choose the video’s visibility setting and finish the upload flow. Uploading transfers the file; publishing or scheduling it is a separate choice.
Keep the original file on your device until the upload has completed. Avoid renaming, moving, editing, or replacing it while an upload may need to be resumed.
Upload from an Android phone
Use the YouTube app to select and upload the video. To choose which connection the app may use, go to Profile picture → Settings → General → Uploads, then select Wi-Fi or mobile network. Menu wording can change as the app is updated.

Mobile upload is an alternative, not a guarantee of higher speed or lower cost. Check your carrier’s data allowance and charges before enabling it, especially for a large recording.

What to do when an upload is slow or interrupted
If it is still transferring
YouTube identifies a slow or unstable internet connection and peak-hour ISP upload traffic as common causes of slow uploads. If the transfer is progressing, leave it running when possible rather than cancelling reflexively. Upload time depends on the file size, format, quality, available upload bandwidth, and network traffic; there is no reliable completion estimate without those details.
If you had to stop or the connection dropped
YouTube says you have up to 24 hours to continue an interrupted upload. Return to youtube.com/upload and select the same file. Keep that original file available and unchanged. A newly edited or re-exported copy may not meet the same-file requirement for continuing the earlier transfer.

If the video seems stuck after transfer
Uploading and processing are different stages. A completed file transfer can still be processing, and HD or 4K versions may take longer to become available. Do not assume the upload failed solely because the highest playback resolution is not ready yet.

Measure upload speed, not download speed: they describe different directions of data transfer, and a download-speed figure does not tell you how quickly a video can be sent to YouTube. TRAI’s broadband FAQ says it does not prescribe a minimum download or upload speed. It says providers must indicate the typical speeds generally available under their tariffs, and points subscribers to the TRAI MySpeed app or portal to check broadband speed. The FAQ also describes testing in which at least 90% of measured samples must meet or exceed the provider’s declared typical speed; that is not a nationwide minimum upload-speed target. See the TRAI Broadband FAQ.

- Wide Compatibility: Simply insert a micro card, whether it is a mobile phone, laptop, desktop or tablet, you can easily connect to wifi (micro card not included).
- Run an upload-speed measurement when the connection is quiet, then compare it with the typical upload speed stated for your own plan.
- If speeds vary, check again at the time you normally upload. YouTube notes that peak-hour ISP traffic can affect uploads.
- If your measured speed is persistently below the provider’s stated typical speed, contact the provider with the measurement details and ask about local line conditions or service problems.
There is no single upload-speed requirement in the cited TRAI guidance that applies to every Indian broadband connection, and these sources do not establish a current nationwide typical upload speed. Avoid treating YouTube’s recommendations for watching video as upload requirements.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Reduce the file size if the original export is unnecessarily large
A smaller file contains fewer bytes to transfer, but compressing or reducing quality can affect the picture. If you have time to make a new export and can accept the quality tradeoff, YouTube references H.264 as a compression option that can reduce file size while maintaining quality. The result depends on the source and export settings; there is no universal bitrate or guaranteed upload-time saving in YouTube’s guidance. See YouTube’s upload limits and compression guidance and its audio and video troubleshooting guidance.

Check YouTube’s upload limits and processing
- Accounts must be verified to upload videos longer than 15 minutes.
- YouTube’s stated maximum upload size is 256 GB or 12 hours, whichever is less. These are platform limits, not recommended target sizes.
- High-resolution versions, including HD and 4K, can take longer to process after the transfer completes.
For videos over the size limit, YouTube’s help guidance says to use H.264 in video-editing software to compress the file. See YouTube’s upload help.
Or let it run in the cloud
