The free console Next-Gen update for METRO 2033 Redux and METRO Last Light Redux is scheduled for October 29, 2026, on PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. Existing owners qualify for the upgrade at no charge; new buyers automatically get the updated version when they purchase either game. As of October 4, 2026, the console update has not launched.
Which Metro Redux games are included?
“Metro Redux” here means both METRO 2033 Redux and METRO Last Light Redux. The announced Next-Gen update covers either game, so you do not need to own both to qualify for an upgrade to one of them. PLAION’s announcement and support FAQ describe the update and its eligibility.

Yes. PLAION says existing owners of either Redux game receive the Next-Gen update free. The game purchase is separate from the free upgrade, and the publisher directs buyers to retailers for local game pricing.

How to prepare to upgrade on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S
PLAION has not published a step-by-step console installation procedure in its FAQ. In particular, it does not specify the exact store buttons, PS4 disc entitlement, PSN account-region requirements, or whether Xbox Smart Delivery is involved. Do not assume a particular menu path or disc-upgrade process until platform-specific instructions are available.
PS5 and PS5 Pro
- Confirm that you own METRO 2033 Redux or METRO Last Light Redux, or plan to purchase the game you want.
- After the scheduled release, check the PlayStation Store or your game library for official upgrade availability. PLAION has not confirmed the exact PS5 upgrade steps or PS4 disc eligibility.
- Follow the on-screen instructions shown for your edition and account. If the update is not offered, consult PLAION or PlayStation support rather than assuming your disc or account region is eligible.
Xbox Series X|S
- Confirm that you own one of the two Redux games, or purchase the game you want.
- After the scheduled release, check your Xbox library or the Xbox Store for the official update. PLAION has not confirmed the Metro-specific installation workflow or Smart Delivery behavior.
- For a compatible digital Xbox One game, Xbox’s general backward-compatibility guidance says it appears in Ready to Install. For a compatible disc, insert it to begin downloading and keep the disc in the drive to play. These are general Xbox One backward-compatibility instructions, not confirmed Metro Redux update steps. See Xbox’s backward-compatibility guidance.
Xbox lists METRO 2033 Redux as an Xbox One title, and says most Xbox One games are playable on Series X|S. Xbox Series S plays digital games only. These platform details do not establish the exact way either Redux title’s Next-Gen update will be claimed.

What changes in the Next-Gen update?
PLAION describes the update as adding visual, performance, and platform enhancements. It is a quality-of-life update, not a remaster or remake, and the games are not being ported to the current 4A Engine. PLAION also says the update has no ray-tracing support. The FAQ does not give a specific console resolution or frame-rate target, so there is no confirmed target to report.
