To start Echoes of Sekigahara, complete four early Ghost of Yōtei story missions, then accept the bounty for Nagato the Handsome at Yōtei’s Shadow Inn. The Ashoro Foothills story follows a mostly sequential route from the Viper camp to a confrontation with Kinsor the Ugly. You do not need to clear every optional activity to finish that story; use the separate checklist below if you want all 12 expansion trophies.
What you need to start Echoes of Sekigahara
PlayStation describes the expansion as split between Atsu’s time in the Battle of Sekigahara and the present day, when Nagato comes to Ezo and the Vipers occupy the previously unseen Ashoro Foothills. The official announcement also mentions new enemy types, heavy weapons, mythic tales, abilities, armor sets, and cosmetics. (PlayStation, September 3, 2026.)
According to a post-launch unlock guide, you must complete these four main-story missions before Nagato becomes available:
- The Old Inn
- The Way of Dual Katana
- The Tale of the Oni
- The Kitsune’s Fate
Then go to Yōtei’s Shadow Inn, speak with bounty broker Kojiro, and accept Nagato the Handsome from the bounty board. Follow the marked route through the marshlands into Ashoro Foothills. Do not ride directly to Ashoro before taking the bounty: the guide describes the region as closed until that objective is active. You do not have to finish the entire base-game campaign first. (Player Atlas, 2026; GamerHour, October 2, 2026.)
#1 Best Overall
- Sekigahara is a 3-hour block game based on the Japanese campaign waged in 1600. The 7-week war elevated Tokugawa Ieyasu to Shogun and unified Japan for 265 years.
- Sekigahara is designed to offer an historically authentic experience within an intuitive game mechanic that can be played in one sitting. Great effort has been taken to preserve a clean game mechanism. (Despite a healthy amount of historical detail, the ruleset is a brief 6 pages.)
- No dice are used; combat is decided with cards. The combination of army and motivation produces impact on the battlefield - armies without matching cards don't fight. Battles resolve quickly, but with suspense, tactical participation, and a wide range of possible outcomes.
- The initial setup is variable, so the situation is always fresh. Concealed information (blocks and cards) lends additional uncertainty. In this way the game feels like the actual campaign.
- From the designer (Matthew Calkins): "[Sekigahara] plays like poker sometimes. You know how strong you’ll be in a hypothetical battle, and your opponent knows how strong he/she will be, so you read each others’ actions to gauge whether you want to initiate it.
Follow the Ashoro story in order
The route below follows the objectives described in a post-launch walkthrough. Treat these as practical route beats, not an official, exhaustive mission catalog. (GamerHour, October 2, 2026.)
1. Reach Ashoro Springs with Nagato
- Follow the wolf’s trail and clear the Viper camp.
- When prompted, use the nearby Massive Weapon against the armored Viper.
- Free the wolf, then go with Nagato toward Ashoro Springs.
2. Clear Ashoro Springs and investigate the missing funds
Clear the Viper occupation and speak with Kihei. The town’s bounty board points you toward the Vipers and the Snake’s missing funds, leading into Another Man’s Treasure.

- Replayable Depth for Multi-Generational Play: One to four players ages thirteen and up discover multiple winning strategies, making this Euro-style game perfect for family nights and serious game enthusiasts
3. Complete Another Man’s Treasure
- For Umakichi the Bear Slayer, release the captured bear before defeating Umakichi, then question him.
- For Bunzaemon the Butcher, finish the confrontation and follow the sequence that returns food to Ashoro Springs.
- Speak with the Hot Spring Attendant when prompted; this leads into a Sekigahara memory.
4. Search the Snake’s Estate
Follow the food-cart tracks through the swamp. At the blocked gate, find and break through the rotted wood. Once inside, search for clues: this objective is an investigation, not simply a standard camp-clear.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute5. Find Ichizo the Toad and the route to Mount Akan
Locate and defeat Ichizo in the estate, take his key, and use it on the Snake’s locked house. The clues there point Atsu and Nagato toward Mount Akan.

6. Complete A Past and Present Battle
- Follow the cart tracks into Mount Akan. If the route appears blocked, stay within the mission area and look for the alternate path.
- Free Nagato from the Black Guard and search the bodies for the note.
- Meet Nagato near Hunter’s Rest Shrine.
7. Complete A Buried Promise
Collect the marked food and feed the Black Buck, then follow Nagato by the alternate climb and continue through the memory sequence. If you want the Free Bird trophy, free the Golden Bird during this section instead of leaving after defeating its captors.
8. Finish Dream’s End
- Meet Nagato and take the bow he leaves on the ridge.
- Clear the Viper camp, interrogate a survivor, and inspect the cart evidence.
- Follow the caravan and take the high route to the retaining wall. Clear its defenders, then pull the supporting logs with Nagato before the caravan passes.
- Protect the surviving gold on the pack horses, escape with Nagato, and defeat Kinsor the Ugly.
- Return to Ashoro Springs.
The walkthrough identifies Dream’s End as the close of the main Ashoro story. Optional activities remain available afterward.

Checklist for all 12 Echoes of Sekigahara trophies
Player Atlas lists 12 expansion trophies and their requirements. The guide recommends completing conditions that depend on enemies or traps before clearing every hostile position, because camps can supply archers, ordinary enemies, and intact traps. After Dream’s End, sweep for anything you missed. These optional objectives are not required to finish the Ashoro story. (Player Atlas, 2026.)

| Trophy | Requirement or useful detail |
|---|---|
| You Are My Ghost | Earned through Atsu and Nagato’s Sekigahara memories. |
| Food for the People | Secure all four Viper Storehouses. Finish each supplies objective and fire the flare when prompted; defeating the enemies alone may not register completion. |
| No More Snakes | Resolve the Viper conflict in Ashoro Foothills. |
| Unbreakable | Complete the named warrior encounter. A player report connects it to a bounty questline, but the precise required bounty sequence has not been corroborated by an official source. |
| Free Bird | During A Buried Promise, clear the surrounding Vipers and interact with the Golden Bird’s cage to free it. |
| Paths to Color | Purchase all five dye trade routes from the Colorful Dye Merchant. The requirement is for routes, not individual dyes. |
| Mother of Misfortune | Win three Zeni Hajiki games at Fortune’s Asobiya. A player report says the games are part of the side tale A Mother’s Love; that connection is community-reported, not established by the trophy guide. |
| Hungry for More | Discover Sweet Mushroom Stew, Savory Mushroom Stew, Aromatic Fish, and Savory Fish Stew. One player report says these recipes appear after the story advances through a settlement and cooking sequence; treat that timing as reported rather than a confirmed universal gate. |
| Handsome Yet Deadly | Get three kills with Gambler’s Mark. The marked attack must deliver the final hit. |
| Pack Hunter | Get a kill with Call of the Pack; the wolf attack must finish the enemy. |
| Return to Sender | Catch and return an arrow so it kills an enemy. Catching an arrow or merely damaging an enemy does not meet the guide’s stated condition. |
| Not This Time | Disarm an intact Viper trap before it triggers. |
The exact bounty sequence for Unbreakable is uncertain: a community player said they had completed all available bounties before earning the story trophy and could not confirm whether doing so was necessary. (Community player report.)
