How do I unlock my Samsung Galaxy J3? First identify what is locked: a carrier restriction that blocks another network’s SIM, the SIM card’s PIN, or the phone’s screen PIN, pattern, or password. Each has a different recovery route. A factory reset, SIM PIN change, and carrier unlock are not interchangeable.
Identify which lock the J3 is asking about

Samsung’s support topics distinguish a newly inserted SIM asking for a PIN or unlock code from forgotten screen-lock help. If the message is unclear, note its exact wording before contacting support. Samsung support
How to request a carrier unlock
- Find the model number. If you can open Settings, check Settings > About phone. If the phone is inaccessible, look at its label or packaging, or check the purchase or account record. J3 variants can differ, so do not rely on the name “Galaxy J3” alone.
- Identify the original carrier and country. The carrier that sold or authorized the phone controls its unlock eligibility process. If you bought the J3 used, ask the seller which carrier it came from; the eligible account holder may need to make or assist with the request.
- Check that carrier’s current policy. Requirements depend on carrier, plan, country, account and device history. Use the carrier’s official procedure rather than a universal code or timing rule.
- Submit the request and follow the carrier’s instructions. Some supported phones may be unlocked remotely; the carrier may instead provide additional steps. Keep the confirmation and any case number.
- Check compatibility with the new carrier. Ask the destination carrier to verify the exact model’s supported network bands and voice and data service. An unlocked phone is not necessarily compatible with every network.
There is no universal Samsung J3 unlock code established by the cited carrier guidance. Eligibility may depend on the original carrier, model, country, account standing, payment and activation history, and whether the device is reported lost, stolen, blocked, or linked to fraud. For a J3 sold outside the United States, use the original carrier’s policy in the relevant country rather than applying these U.S. thresholds.
If the prompt is for a SIM card PIN
The SIM PIN protects the SIM, not the J3’s carrier eligibility or screen. The J320A manual says the PIN is required to unlock and use that SIM; if you do not know it, contact the SIM provider or carrier for recovery. Repeated guesses can create further access problems, so do not try codes at random. J320A manual

If you forgot the screen lock
A forgotten screen PIN, pattern, or password is a handset-access problem, not a network unlock. The J327A manual documents screen-lock settings, but the cited material does not establish a safe bypass that preserves the owner’s data. Before following any reset procedure, check what it will erase and whether you have a backup. A reset should not be presented as a data-preserving way to remove a forgotten screen lock. Avoid third-party bypass tools unless Samsung or the relevant service provider specifically directs you to a supported method.

What “unlocked Galaxy J3” means in Samsung’s product information
Samsung Electronics America announced on July 24, 2017 that unlocked U.S. versions of the Galaxy J3 and J7 would be available starting July 28, 2017. The announcement listed a launch price of $149.99 for the unlocked J3 and specifications including a 5.0-inch HD TFT display, 1.5 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage, 5 MP rear and 2 MP front cameras, and a removable 2,600 mAh battery. Those are historical launch details for that U.S. unlocked model, not a description of every regional or carrier J3 or proof of current network compatibility. Samsung Electronics America announcement
