If it does not, the available alternatives may be to disable the app or hide its icon—neither is the same as uninstalling it. The exact options depend on the app, phone model, and software version.
Uninstall, disable, or hide: what’s the difference?

Google notes that some system apps that came with an Android phone cannot be deleted. Its general guidance is to check with the device manufacturer for instructions on disabling apps. See Google’s instructions for disabling apps that came with an Android device.
Try the app’s Settings page first

Open Settings and tap Apps. Depending on the phone, you may need to tap See all apps or All apps.

Select the preinstalled app you want to remove.

Use the option actually shown on that app’s page: Uninstall to remove it, or Disable to turn it off. If neither appears, the phone does not offer that action for the app through this screen.

Android menus are not identical across manufacturers. If the option or path differs, check the official support instructions for your exact phone model and software version rather than assuming another phone’s steps will apply.
How to uninstall or disable preinstalled apps on a Google Pixel
Google’s Pixel guidance uses this path to disable an app: Settings > Apps > All apps > [app] > Disable. Google says most system apps can be disabled, but some preinstalled system apps cannot be deleted. If the app page has no Disable control, Google’s instructions do not establish that it can be turned off on your device.

Removing an app icon from the Home screen is a separate action; it does not uninstall the app. Follow Google’s Android app guidance if you need the general instructions.
Can you uninstall preinstalled apps on a Samsung Galaxy?
Sometimes. Samsung Ireland’s support guide, last updated May 26, 2026, says some preinstalled Galaxy apps can be deleted. It lists Phone, Messages, Contacts, Gallery, and My Files as examples of essential apps that cannot be deleted because they support basic device functions. Samsung warns that menus and layouts can vary by model, software version, and app version. See its Galaxy instructions for deleting preinstalled apps.

Uninstall an app if Samsung offers the option
Touch and hold the app’s icon, then tap Uninstall if it appears. You can also check Settings > Apps > [app] for the available controls.
Disable an app if Uninstall is unavailable
Open Settings > Apps > [app] > Disable, then tap Disable app if prompted. Samsung says this option is available only for some preinstalled apps.

Enable a disabled app again
Go to Settings > Apps, select the disabled app, and tap Enable. Samsung documents this as the route to turn the app back on.
Hide an app without disabling it
On Samsung’s documented flow, open the Apps screen, tap More, then Settings > Hide apps on Home and Apps screens. Samsung says hiding is available for all preinstalled apps, unlike disabling, which is limited to some. The app remains installed and is not turned off.

What if neither Uninstall nor Disable is available?

Check the phone maker’s official support page for your exact model and software version; the menu path and supported actions can differ.

If the goal is only to declutter the screen, look for an option to remove the icon from the Home screen or hide the app. These actions do not remove the installed app.

If the goal is to stop the app, use Disable only if the phone offers it. Do not assume that an essential or protected system app can safely be removed by another method.
Advanced option: use ADB only if you understand the risk
Android’s developer documentation describes package-manager commands for uninstalling, disabling, and enabling apps through Android Debug Bridge (ADB). The documented uninstall command can be scoped to a user with --user; without that option, the documented command applies to all users on the device. ADB provides a way to issue commands, but the documentation does not establish that arbitrary system packages are safe to remove. Do not run commands against packages you cannot identify, and avoid mass-removal commands.

ADB requires connecting the phone to a computer over USB and enabling USB debugging in Developer options. On Android 4.2.2 and later, the phone prompts you to accept an RSA authorization request from the connected computer. Consult the Android Developers ADB documentation for the current setup and command details. For this optional route, use a data cable compatible with both the phone and computer; a cable is not needed for the Settings steps above.
