You can silence routine notifications on a Samsung Galaxy and still let selected contacts or repeat callers ring through. Turn on Do not disturb, set the call exceptions you need, and add a schedule if you want quiet hours to start automatically. Menu names vary by model and software version, so use Settings search if the steps look different.
Turn on Do not disturb
- Open Settings > Notifications > Do not disturb. Samsung also documents opening Quick settings and touching and holding the Do not disturb icon to reach its settings.
- To silence notifications now, tap the Do not disturb control in Quick settings. To configure who can reach you and when, use the settings screen.
Samsung’s US support guide documents this route, but screen layouts and menu sequences can differ by Galaxy model and software version. If you cannot find the setting, search Settings for “Do not disturb” or consult the user manual for your exact model. Choose which calls can ring through
In Do not disturb settings, open Allowed during Do not disturb > Calls and messages. Choose an exception that fits how important callers are likely to contact you.
Allow calls from selected contacts
Select the contacts you want to reach you. Samsung also documents allowing calls from favorite contacts; this is useful if you have already marked the people whose calls should get through. Check the available choices on your phone, since labels and options may vary.

Allow repeat callers
Enable the repeat-caller option if you want a caller who tries again to have another way to reach you. This can help when an urgent caller is not saved as a contact. It is a separate exception from choosing specific contacts, and you can use either or both if your phone offers both options.
These exceptions control who can get through. A schedule controls when Do not disturb runs; setting one does not by itself determine which callers are allowed.

Schedule regular quiet hours
- In Do not disturb settings, choose Add schedule. Depending on the device, you may instead see Turn on as scheduled and then an add control.
- Enter a schedule name and set the days, start time, end time, and other preferences shown on your phone.
- Save the schedule and make sure it is turned on. Samsung says Galaxy phones can have multiple schedules, so you can configure separate recurring quiet periods where supported.
Decide what else is allowed during quiet time
Review the other exceptions in Do not disturb settings before relying on the mode. Samsung’s US guide lists app notifications and alarms and sounds as configurable areas. Sound choices it lists include alarms, media sound, touch sounds, calendar events, and reminders. Keep the alerts you need—such as an alarm—while muting routine notifications that can wait.

If a call rings when you expected silence
- Check caller exceptions: Confirm whether the caller is an allowed contact or whether repeat callers are permitted. An exception can explain why a call still rings.
- Review sound and vibration settings: Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance recommends checking these settings if the phone behaves unexpectedly.
- Check the individual contact: If one person’s calls behave differently, review that contact’s ringtone behavior.
