To turn on channel memberships in India, your channel must meet YouTube’s eligibility requirements, then you can activate the feature in YouTube Studio under Earn → Memberships. An always-on stream does not create a special eligibility route: continuous streaming alone does not qualify a channel.
Check whether your channel is eligible
YouTube’s current published thresholds for channel memberships are 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the past 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours from long-form videos in the past 365 days or 3 million qualified public Shorts views in the past 90 days. The watch-hour and Shorts-view figures are alternative routes; the subscriber and upload requirements apply to both. See YouTube’s monetization feature eligibility table.
The thresholds are only part of eligibility. You must be at least 18, live in a location where memberships are available, accept the Commerce Product Module (CPM), and have a channel that is not set as Made for Kids or otherwise ineligible. Memberships are a YouTube Partner Program (YPP) monetization feature, so YPP acceptance and continued compliance with monetization policies also matter. YouTube reviews channels and may withhold features if the requirements or policy conditions are not met.

India is on YouTube’s channel-membership availability list. Availability in India does not remove the channel-level thresholds or review.

Turn on memberships in YouTube Studio
- On a computer, sign in to YouTube Studio.
- Select Earn in the left-hand menu.
- Open the Memberships tab. YouTube shows it when the channel is eligible.
- Select Get started and follow the on-screen prompts.
- Accept the Commerce Product Module if prompted. YouTube says this agreement is required to earn channel-membership revenue.
- Set up your membership levels and choose the perks you want to offer.
YouTube notes that memberships may not activate immediately after YPP acceptance because a separate eligibility review may be needed. Its help page says that review can take up to two days. If the Memberships tab is missing, check your eligibility and return to Studio after the review period. See YouTube’s instructions for turning memberships on or off.
Does an always-on stream change membership eligibility?
No special always-on-stream condition appears in YouTube’s published membership criteria. Meet the membership thresholds and account and channel requirements; do not assume that streaming continuously will make the feature available or guarantee approval.
Going live has separate prerequisites. YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Its live-streaming guidance describes mobile, webcam, and encoder options. These are ways to operate a live stream, not extra membership requirements.

Choose levels and perks that fit your stream
Memberships are recurring monthly payments in exchange for creator-defined benefits. You can configure supported perks in Studio, including badges, emoji, member recognition, members-only videos and Shorts, members-only live streams, and members-only live chat. For a public always-on stream, members-only chat may be a suitable perk; YouTube documents a setting for enabling it in stream settings.
Keep members-only video content within YouTube’s rules: videos must be fully original and must not contain videos with copyright claims. Review YouTube’s guidance on members-only videos and membership perks and settings before promising a benefit to members.
Keep an always-on stream running
If you run the stream yourself, YouTube supports mobile, webcam, and encoder workflows. Pick the approach that matches how you produce the stream; none is required to enable memberships. For example, an encoder-based setup can keep prerecorded programming live, but it still requires an operating device and a stable connection. YouTube’s live-stream help page gives setup information and identifies Wirecast as an example of encoder software.

- Check the thresholds: Confirm the subscriber count, three public uploads in the last 90 days, and one of the two qualified viewing thresholds in the relevant window.
- Check channel conditions: Confirm the channel is not set as Made for Kids, that you meet the age and location requirements, and that no policy or channel-status issue makes it ineligible.
- Check YPP status: Memberships are a YPP feature; meeting the numeric thresholds alone does not equal acceptance.
- Allow for review: After YPP acceptance, YouTube may take up to two days to complete a separate membership eligibility review.
- Look for the CPM step: If prompted, accept the Commerce Product Module to earn membership revenue.
- Separate live-stream issues from membership access: Verification and the absence of recent live-stream restrictions affect going live, not the published membership threshold.

Can viewers join from India?
India is listed as a supported location for channel memberships. A specific channel still has to satisfy YouTube’s requirements and review.
Can I turn on memberships from my phone?
The activation path described here is in YouTube Studio on a computer. Mobile, webcam, and encoder options concern how you stream, not how you activate memberships.
