There is no single confirmed switch that removes every yellow border in Windows. First check whether Magnifier is on or an app is capturing, sharing, or recording your screen. If the outline remains, inspect capture tools and overlays. Windows 11 also has a reported Screenshot borders setting; the available evidence does not establish an equivalent setting in Windows 10.
Turn off Magnifier if it is active
If Magnifier is running, press Windows logo key + Esc to turn it off. Microsoft Support documents this shortcut for Magnifier in Windows 10 and Windows 11: Use Magnifier to make things on the screen easier to see. A yellow border by itself does not prove that Magnifier is the cause.
Stop the capture, sharing, or recording session
If the border appeared when you started a screen share, recording, or capture, stop that session in the app that started it. The outline may be associated with a capture or sharing overlay; closing or changing a Windows setting is not a substitute for ending the session in that app.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

If the outline remains after you stop the session, check which capture apps or overlays are still running. PowerToys is one possibility, but it is not a universal explanation: a Microsoft Q&A reply reports that quitting PowerToys resolved one user’s border, while a PowerToys issue includes another user report involving streaming.

- Quit or disable one suspected capture tool or overlay at a time, then check whether the border disappears.
- If the outline vanishes after closing an app, that points to that app or its active feature; it does not establish that PowerToys or another tool causes all yellow borders.
See the reports in Microsoft Q&A: Yellow border on all monitors and the PowerToys issue about turning off the yellow frame.
Windows 11: review Screenshot borders
A third-party troubleshooting article reports this route: Settings > Privacy & security > Screenshot borders. On a Windows 11 build where the page is available, it describes the option Let desktop apps turn off the screenshot border as allowing a desktop app to suppress the border when requested. The route and behavior are not confirmed here by a Microsoft Support source, so labels or availability may vary by build and app.

This option is a permission for an app to suppress a screenshot border; it does not stop an underlying capture session. If the control is absent or does not help, return to the app that started capture or sharing and check active overlays. The reported route is described by CloudsPress.

The available sources do not confirm a Windows 10 equivalent to the Windows 11 Screenshot borders page. On Windows 10, stop any active capture, sharing, or recording session in its app, then check capture tools and overlays. Do not assume Magnifier is responsible solely because the outline is yellow.

- Stop any screen-sharing, recording, or capture session in the app that started it.
- Check capture tools and overlays, including PowerToys, by closing suspected apps one at a time.
- On Windows 11, look for Settings > Privacy & security > Screenshot borders; treat the reported control as build- and app-dependent.
The cited sources do not establish a universal Windows toggle or a verified Windows 10 equivalent. Avoid registry edits or other blanket fixes based only on the border’s color.
