On a Toshiba VIDAA TV, press Home and go to Settings > Accessibility > Subtitle Settings, then switch Subtitle off. Toshiba’s manuals document different menus on other TV interfaces, so if that path is missing—or subtitles remain—check the instructions for your model and the video source.
Turn off subtitles on a Toshiba VIDAA TV
For the documented VIDAA interface, the setting applies to digital broadcast subtitles. Toshiba notes that the feature may not apply to every model or be available in every country or region. Toshiba VIDAA MB281V official manual
- Press Home on the remote.
- Open Settings > Accessibility > Subtitle Settings.
- Set Subtitle to off.
If you want subtitles available in a preferred language rather than disabled, check Primary Subtitle and Secondary Subtitle. Some models also offer Channel Subtitle Storage, which saves subtitle settings per channel.

Tuner-based Toshiba TVs with analogue and digital controls
Open the TV’s subtitle options and set Digital Subtitle to Off. Toshiba’s manual states, “Digital Subtitle: Set this option as Off or On.” If subtitles appear on an analogue broadcast, set Analogue Subtitle to Off as well. Toshiba Android TV
On the documented Android TV interface, open Accessibility > Captions. Toshiba describes controls for caption language, text size, and style. The manual passage does not establish a single universal off label across models or software versions, so use the caption display control shown on your TV, if available. Why subtitles may still be on
- You changed the wrong source’s setting. Confirm whether you are watching a live broadcast through the TV tuner, a streaming app, or an HDMI-connected device. Tuner subtitle options can vary by input.
- The streaming app controls its own subtitles. If captions appear only in one app, open that app’s playback or accessibility controls and turn them off there. Toshiba’s manuals do not specify menus for third-party apps.
- An HDMI device is adding captions. Check the caption settings on the connected streaming box, game console, or set-top box. The Toshiba manuals do not establish steps for specific third-party devices.
- Your menus differ by model or region. Find the TV’s exact model number and consult its manual; Toshiba says some subtitle and accessibility options vary by model, country, or region.
