Samsung does not use one universal switch called “privacy mode.” Choose the steps that match what you see: a screen that looks dark from the side, private tabs in Samsung Browser, or a missing Secure Folder icon. These features have different controls.
If your screen is dark from the side: turn off Privacy display
These steps are documented for the Galaxy S26 Ultra; other Samsung models may have different labels or may not include this feature.
- From Quick Panel: Swipe down to open the Quick Panel, touch and hold Privacy display, then switch off Turn on Privacy display.
- From Settings: Open Settings > Display > Privacy Display and switch it off.
If it keeps turning on, check the same Privacy Display settings for automatic activation conditions. Samsung says it can be set to activate for selected apps, when entering a PIN, pattern, or password, or for notification pop-ups. Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra Privacy display instructions cover those controls.
If Samsung Browser shows private tabs: leave Secret mode
Secret mode is a Samsung Browser tab mode, not a phone-wide privacy setting. Open the tab manager and switch to the All tab view, or close the Secret mode tab. Samsung also says closing the Browser app exits Secret mode. Samsung notes that Secret mode does not save browsing history, cookies, or search records. See Samsung’s Secret mode instructions for the tab-manager steps.

If Secure Folder is missing: show its icon
A hidden Secure Folder icon does not mean the folder’s contents were erased. To show the icon, either use the Secure Folder tile in Quick Settings or open Settings > Security and privacy > More security settings > Secure Folder and enable Add Secure Folder to Apps screen.
Menu names and availability can vary by software version and wireless provider, and some devices may not support Secure Folder. Showing the icon changes its visibility; do not uninstall or remove Secure Folder as a first step, because Samsung says removing it can remove its contents. Samsung’s Secure Folder guide explains the available controls.

If you mean browser tracking controls: check the Privacy dashboard
Samsung Browser’s Tools > Privacy opens its Privacy dashboard, where you can view blocked content and customize browser privacy options. This is separate from Secret mode: the dashboard controls browser options, while Secret mode changes the tab view. See Samsung’s browsing Privacy dashboard guide.
If you mean Private album in Gallery
Private album is a separate Gallery feature, not another name for Privacy display or Browser Secret mode. Samsung India documents it for select Galaxy devices running One UI 8.5 and describes setting it up and moving media into it, but that support page does not explain how to disable it. Its availability and steps should not be assumed for other devices or regions. Samsung India’s Private album guide was last updated April 23, 2026.
