You can manage Instagram’s ad-personalization settings in Profile → menu → Accounts Center → Ad preferences. The available controls depend on your account and region, and changing them does not necessarily remove ads or stop all personalization.
Find Instagram’s ad preferences
- Open Instagram and tap your profile picture.
- Tap the menu button.
- Open Accounts Center, then Ad preferences.
- Review the ad settings and information-use controls shown for your account, and change the options you want.
Accounts Center is Meta’s hub for managing ad preferences across accounts connected there. The exact labels and available choices can vary by account, region, and rollout, so follow the current options displayed in your app. Meta’s Accounts Center help describes the destination, but does not establish one identical set of screens for every Instagram account.
What changing personalization does—and does not do
Ad personalization controls affect how information is used to tailor ads; they are not necessarily a switch to stop ads. Meta’s described recommendation signals are not limited to activity on other websites: it said interactions with Meta AI began informing recommendations and ads in most regions on December 16, 2025. Ad preferences and feed controls are the adjustment points Meta identifies. Meta’s explanation of AI interaction signals describes that change.
The sources available do not establish a universal Instagram setting that fully turns off personalized ads for every user, or quantify how much a particular user’s settings change reduces personalization or ad volume.

If you’re in the EU: less personalized ads still include ads
Meta has described a free EU choice to use Facebook and Instagram with ads that rely on less personal data for more limited personalization, rather than sharing data for fully personalized ads. The less-personalized option can result in less relevant ads and may include brief, unskippable ad breaks. It is distinct from Meta’s paid subscription for using the services without ads. Meta’s November 2024 explanation describes the option and its limits.
The European Commission said on December 8, 2025 that Meta would present EU users with a choice between sharing all data for fully personalized ads and sharing less personal data for more limited personalization, with presentation planned for January 2026. That announcement does not guarantee that a specific option is currently visible on every account; check your live ad settings. European Commission announcement.

Check an ad when you can’t find the setting
An ad can provide another route to the relevant information and preferences:

Meta describes this entry point in its “Why am I seeing this ad?” help page. The precise menu and options may differ by placement or account.

Meta announced that it would retire Your activity off Meta technologies and expand Activity from other businesses, a control covering use of activity shared by businesses for ads and non-ad content. Its June 9, 2026 announcement said rollout would begin in the US and some other countries in July, then expand further. Availability and labels can therefore differ by market and account. Meta’s announcement says of that specific change, “We aren’t collecting any new data as part of this update.” That statement concerns the announced control update; it is not a general claim that Meta collects no data.
