Gore settings vary by game. In Gears 5, turning Gore off removes blood splatters and custom executions; Gears of War: E-Day lets you toggle some blood and gore effects; and the documented option for Gears of War 4 on PC reduces particle effects rather than disabling gore entirely. Here are the controls and their limits.
Find the right control for your Gears game

Turn off gore in Gears 5
- Open the game’s Options menu.
- Find the Gore control in the accessibility or content settings and turn it off.
The Coalition says this removes blood splatters and custom executions. Its description does not promise that every violent animation or story event is removed.

Filter language separately
Gears 5 has a separate Mature Content option for swearing in the campaign story. It does not prevent profanity spoken through online voice chat. The game also has a text-chat profanity filter for most profanity displayed on screen; this is separate from the Gore control.

Reduce gore in Gears of War: E-Day
- From the main menu or during play, open Settings.
- Select Accessibility.
- Under Mature Content, find Gore and toggle it.
The official description says this toggles display of some blood and gore effects during gameplay. That wording does not guarantee every graphic effect or moment will disappear.

Use the profanity filters if needed
The campaign Profanity Filter applies to game dialogue and subtitles and is available only in English. The Chat Profanity Filter applies to player text messages and requires Text Chat to be on.
Reduce particle effects in Gears of War 4 on PC
- Open the game’s graphics settings.
- Lower Particle Spawn Rate.
NVIDIA’s 2016 PC graphics guide says lowering this setting results in less blood and gore when killing enemies, along with less smoke and debris. It describes a reduction, not a complete gore disable. This guidance is for the PC graphics options; it does not establish that the same control is available on console.

What about the original Gears trilogy?
For the original Gears of War, Gears of War 2, Gears of War 3, and their remastered or backward-compatible editions, a reliable current menu path and consistent behavior across editions are not established. A community-maintained overview of the content filter is not enough to confirm exact present-day instructions for every version. Check the Options menu in the specific edition you are playing rather than assuming a control or path is universal.

Choose the setting for what you want to change
- Blood and visual gore: Use the Gore setting in Gears 5 or E-Day, keeping in mind their different stated scope.
- Campaign swearing: Use the separate Mature Content option in Gears 5 or the English-only campaign Profanity Filter in E-Day.
- Online communication: Voice chat profanity in Gears 5 is not blocked by its campaign language control. In E-Day, the Chat Profanity Filter concerns text messages and requires Text Chat to be enabled.
- Less visual intensity in Gears of War 4 on PC: Lower Particle Spawn Rate; this also reduces smoke and debris.
