To disable motion blur or chromatic aberration, open the game’s Settings or Options, then check Video, Graphics, Visuals, or Post-Processing. Turn off each effect separately if the game provides separate controls, then apply or save your changes. Menu names and available options vary by game.
Find the settings in the game menu
- Open the game’s Settings or Options menu.
- Look under Video, Graphics, Visuals, or Post-Processing.
- Set Motion Blur to Off. Look separately for Chromatic Aberration and switch it off if available. A game may offer a strength setting such as Low or High instead of a simple toggle.
- Apply or save the change. If the image does not update immediately, return to gameplay; restart only if the game asks you to.
The controls may be separate or grouped with other visual effects. For example, EA’s Jedi: Fallen Order PC visual-settings page documents separate switches for Motion Blur and Chromatic Aberration. The Street Fighter IV PC manual routes settings through the title screen or Main menu > Options > PC settings and lists Motion Blur among its graphics controls. Those examples illustrate why there is no single menu path that applies to every game.
What the two effects change
Motion blur
Motion blur adds blur when the camera or objects move rapidly. EA describes its Motion Blur setting in Jedi: Fallen Order in those terms. A game may provide a simple on/off switch or a different control for the effect.
Chromatic aberration
Chromatic aberration adds a color-fringing or color-correction effect associated with different focal planes. EA describes the setting in Jedi: Fallen Order as color correcting on various focal planes. The exact appearance and implementation can differ between games.

Disabling either effect is mainly a visual preference. You may prefer the cleaner or sharper presentation, while turning the effects off can change the cinematic look intended by the game’s developers.
Will turning them off improve performance?
Do not assume that disabling these effects will produce a noticeable frame-rate increase. NVIDIA’s Witcher 3 graphics guide reported that Blur and Motion Blur together appeared to cost a few frames per second in a fight in its testing. The same guide reported an average cost of 0.3 frames per second for Chromatic Aberration across multiple tests. Those are game-specific results from NVIDIA’s testing, not general benchmarks for other games or hardware.

If the game does not offer a toggle
Check official help for the exact game
Look for the game’s official manual, support pages, patch notes, or support channel. The effect may be bundled with a broader post-processing control or managed through a launcher rather than a setting with the effect’s name. Menu behavior can also differ by game version.
Do not rely on a universal Steam launch option
Steam explains that launch options can supersede a game’s internal settings, but its common launch-options list covers GoldSrc and Source games; those options do not apply to most third-party games. There is no universal Steam launch flag for switching off motion blur or chromatic aberration.

Treat configuration-file edits as game-specific
Only consider editing a configuration file if a trustworthy source confirms the file path and setting for the exact game and version. Back up the original file first. An edit may be overwritten by the game, cause visual or startup problems, or conflict with an update; restore the backup or undo the change if something goes wrong.
A community guide is not automatically a safe or current recipe. For example, Steam currently marks a Drive Beyond Horizons configuration guide as removed and incompatible with the game. Its existence is not a recommendation to apply its instructions.

Check how the setting behaves
If the game offers several versions of an effect control, check these points before deciding what to use:
- Separate or bundled: See whether each effect has its own control or is part of a broader post-processing option.
- Available strengths: Look for Off, Low, or High choices rather than assuming the setting is binary.
- Where it applies: Notice whether the change affects gameplay, cutscenes, or both.
- Whether it persists: After saving and relaunching, check whether the setting remains as you chose it.
For game-specific troubleshooting, Steam’s general performance guidance notes that results vary between machines and directs players to the game’s support for title-specific help.
