To silence typing on a Samsung phone, turn off Sound under Samsung Keyboard’s Touch feedback settings. This targets keyboard clicks without requiring you to silence the phone or other system sounds. If you use Gboard instead, change its own keypress-sound preference.
Turn off sound in Samsung Keyboard
Samsung’s keyboard-specific setting is the most direct option if you want to stop typing sounds while leaving other phone sounds alone. Samsung’s instructions apply to Samsung Keyboard; another keyboard app has separate controls. Samsung support’s steps were updated July 3, 2026, and screens may differ by model, carrier, or software version: Samsung support: Turn off keyboard sounds.
- Open an app where you can type so Samsung Keyboard appears.
- Tap the keyboard’s Settings icon. If it is not visible, enable the keyboard toolbar in Samsung Keyboard settings.
- Go to Swipe, touch, and feedback > Touch feedback.
- Switch Sound off.
Sound and Vibration are separate Touch feedback options. Leave Vibration on if you want tactile feedback without keypress sounds.

You can also disable the Samsung Keyboard sound event in system settings. The exact labels depend on Android version:

- Android 13 or later: Open Settings > Sounds and vibration > System sound, then switch off Samsung Keyboard.
- Android 12 or earlier: Look under Settings > Sound and vibration > System sound and vibration, then switch off Samsung Keyboard.
Samsung describes this screen as a place to choose which system events make sounds and adjust system sound volume. Check the individual event switches rather than lowering a broad volume control if you want to preserve other sounds. Menu names and available options can vary with the device and installed software. If your Samsung phone uses Gboard
Samsung Keyboard’s settings will not control keypress sounds in Gboard. A Samsung Members community response points Gboard users to Gboard Settings > Preferences > Sound on keypress. This is community guidance rather than an official Google or Samsung support article, and Gboard labels may change: Samsung Members community discussion.

Why the keyboard-specific setting is useful
Typing sounds are short and repeated; Samsung Developer notes that “Keyboard input sounds are played quickly and repeatedly” in its One UI sound guidance. If only those clicks bother you, switching off the keyboard’s own sound setting avoids treating all phone audio as one problem. Use the system route when you prefer to manage the keyboard as one of the phone’s sound events.
