If you can still open your Galaxy’s Settings, remove the Google Account from the phone before you reset it. If the phone has already been reset and is asking for Google verification, sign in with an account previously synced to that device, or use a previous screen lock if the phone offers that option. These are different situations: removing the account prevents the ownership check from blocking a planned reset, while the verification screen requires you to prove ownership.
What “Google lock” means on a Samsung Galaxy
“Google lock” usually refers to Factory Reset Protection (FRP), also called Google Device Protection. It is an anti-theft ownership check, not the phone’s ordinary screen lock. After a protected device is reset, it may ask for a Google Account that was previously added and synced to the Galaxy before setup can continue. Samsung describes FRP as a security feature intended to help protect a device if it is lost or stolen (Samsung Support: Perform a factory reset on your Galaxy phone or tablet).
The right steps depend on whether you can still access Settings:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Before a planned reset or handoff: remove the Google Account from the Galaxy, then reset it through Settings.
- After a reset, at the verification screen: verify with a previously synced Google Account or, if offered, the prior screen lock. If you cannot, recover the account or seek official service help.
Turn off Google lock before resetting a Galaxy
Removing the Google Account from the phone turns off device protection for that device. It does not delete the Google Account itself. Samsung’s account-removal menu can vary by model and software version; the following is the general path Samsung documents for Galaxy devices.

- HELP THAT KEEPS UP: Stay in the moment while Now Nudge with Galaxy AI helps you respond faster and stay organized with smart suggestions⁵ that appear exactly when you need them on your phone
- Back up anything you want to keep. A factory reset erases personal data stored on the phone.
- Open Settings and go to Accounts and backup.
- Tap Manage accounts, select the Google Account, then choose Remove account. Confirm if prompted. Samsung’s account-removal guidance is available at Samsung Gulf: How to remove a Google account from a Samsung phone.
- If you still need to wipe the phone, open Settings > General management > Reset > Factory data reset and follow the prompts. Menu names may differ by model or software version.
Use the Settings reset when you can access the phone. A reset performed through Recovery or with hardware buttons can lead to a different verification situation; Samsung notes that reset methods other than Factory data reset in Settings may trigger FRP. Google also says a protected reset may require the screen unlock or Google Account information (Google Android Help: Help prevent others from using your device without permission).
Get past Google verification after a Samsung reset
If setup asks you to verify the device, enter a Google Account that was previously added and synced to that Galaxy. A guest account will not satisfy this check. Depending on the device and software version, the setup screen may also offer the screen lock that was used before the reset. Follow the option shown on the phone; not every device offers both methods.

If you forgot the Google Account or password
Use Google’s account recovery process to recover access to the account that was on the phone. A different Google Account that was never synced to the Galaxy will not verify ownership. If you recently changed the password, Samsung says a 24-hour cooldown may apply before the new password works on the device; waiting longer may be necessary before trying setup again (Samsung Support: Perform a factory reset on your Galaxy phone or tablet).

Why another reset or a bypass tool is not the fix
Resetting the phone again does not establish that you own it or remove the Google Account verification requirement. A cable or unofficial “FRP bypass” tool is not a substitute for verifying with the previously synced account or getting official service help. If you are preparing a phone for someone else, remove your Google Account while you can still access Settings, then perform the reset there.
