To stop NameDrop, go to Settings > General > AirDrop and turn off Bringing Devices Together. To stop automatic sharing of your name, photo, and Contact Poster, open Contacts > My Card > Edit, tap your contact photo, and turn off Name & Photo Sharing. These are separate settings, so choose the one that matches what you want to prevent.
Choose which kind of contact sharing to turn off
“Contact sharing” can refer to two different iPhone features. NameDrop starts when you bring supported devices close together; Name & Photo Sharing controls automatic sharing of your name, photo, and Contact Poster. Use this comparison to pick the right setting:

Turn off NameDrop
- Open Settings.
- Tap General, then AirDrop.
- Turn off Bringing Devices Together.
Apple says NameDrop is on by default. This switch also turns off other features triggered by bringing devices together; it is not a NameDrop-only control. See Apple’s AirDrop instructions for the current guidance.

- Open Contacts and tap My Card.
- Tap Edit, then tap your contact photo.
- Turn off Name & Photo Sharing.
Apple also lists Contacts Only and Always Ask as choices. If you do not want sharing enabled automatically but still want to decide case by case, choose Always Ask. See Apple’s instructions for editing your contact information.

Limit what NameDrop shares without disabling it
If you want to keep NameDrop available, review the details on your My Card and select the name, phone number, or email address you are comfortable sharing. Apple says NameDrop shares the selected contact details and Contact Poster information; it does not share other Contact Card details such as a home address or birthday. Apple’s NameDrop safety guidance explains what is and is not included.
Cancel a NameDrop exchange that has started
If devices are already close together and you do not want to complete the transfer, move them apart or lock your iPhone before the transfer finishes. Apple describes NameDrop as working with nearby iPhone or supported Apple Watch devices; exact compatibility depends on the device and software version. Check Apple’s current NameDrop guidance if you need to confirm eligibility.
