To disable a VPN on a smart TV, first find where it is running: on the TV or a connected streaming device, on the router, or as a manually configured DNS service. Disconnect it on that device if it is installed there; if the router runs the VPN, change the router’s VPN client setting instead. The TV may have no VPN switch of its own.
Find where the VPN is configured
“VPN on the TV” can refer to different network setups, and each has a different control. Check the TV and any attached streaming device for a VPN app or VPN setting. If neither has one, the VPN may be running on the router, which can route traffic for multiple devices. A manually entered DNS or Smart DNS address is different from a VPN tunnel; do not change it as though it were a VPN.
- TV or streaming device: Look for a VPN app, connection, or profile on the device that plays the content.
- Router: Check the router’s administration interface or the setup instructions from the VPN provider.
- DNS or Smart DNS: Check the TV’s network settings and the instructions for the service that supplied the DNS value.
Samsung Tizen and LG webOS TVs may not offer native VPN apps, according to VPNFin, a secondary source. Availability can depend on the model and platform, so check your TV’s support materials rather than assuming every model works the same way. VPNFin’s smart-TV VPN setup guide

- Open the VPN app on the device that is connected to the TV network or playing the stream.
- Choose its disconnect or turn-off control.
- If the VPN reconnects, check that device’s VPN settings or profiles and disable the connection there, if available.
- Restart the streaming app and try playing the content again.
Apple TV
On Apple TV, open Settings > General > VPN & Device Management and check for VPN settings, if available. Apple does not say this section is present on every Apple TV. If the device is managed by an organization and the setting is locked or returns after you change it, contact its administrator or the VPN provider rather than trying to bypass management. Samsung and LG TVs
If you do not find a VPN app or setting on a Samsung or LG TV, check any connected streaming device and the router before changing the TV’s network settings. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance identifies a router VPN or firewall as a possible cause of connection problems. Samsung Gulf Support: Fix Wi-Fi connection issues on a Samsung TV
Turn off a VPN running on the router
When the router runs the VPN, the setting is not in the TV menu. Sign in to your router’s administration interface and look for its VPN client, VPN profile, or connection control. Disable the relevant profile or connection, following the router or VPN provider’s instructions for that model. If you cannot identify the setting, ask the provider or router administrator for help. A router-level change can affect traffic from other devices using that router, not just the TV. If the router or VPN is managed by someone else, contact that person before changing its configuration.
Handle DNS or Smart DNS separately
A manually configured DNS or Smart DNS address is not proof that a VPN tunnel is active. Its location and reset procedure vary by TV model and service, so use the TV maker’s and service provider’s instructions for the exact device. Do not substitute a random DNS address. The available universal guidance does not establish one reliable menu path for reverting DNS across all smart TVs.

Check the connection after disconnecting
- Restart the streaming app and test it again.
- Check whether another device can access the internet on the same Wi-Fi network.
- If the TV still has no internet, try connecting it to a phone hotspot. LG says that if the TV works over a hotspot, the router or internet service provider may be the source of the problem.
- If other apps work but one app does not, check that app for an update and contact its provider before resetting the TV.
For Samsung TVs covered by its 2020–2024 troubleshooting guide, the listed network paths include Settings > Network > Wi-Fi and Settings > General > Reset Network Settings. Menu names can differ on other models and software versions. Samsung Gulf Support’s Wi-Fi troubleshooting steps

Why a factory reset should be a last resort
A factory reset deletes account settings and installed apps, according to LG. Try the targeted steps above first; if one app alone is failing, follow its provider’s troubleshooting advice before resetting the TV. LG USA Support: Fix apps that freeze, crash, or won’t load
