To turn a holiday campaign video into a YouTube livestream, loop the approved video in OBS, connect OBS to a stream you create in YouTube Studio, then monitor the Live Control Room. Use OBS’s Media Source with Loop for one clip, or a VLC Video playlist with Loop Playlist for several. A continuous 24/7 broadcast is possible, but YouTube does not guarantee a complete archive for a stream longer than 12 hours, and copyright matches can interrupt it.
Before you start: clear the campaign video and check channel eligibility
Confirm rights for every element
Make sure you have the rights needed to livestream and retain all footage, logos, music, voiceovers, performers, and other material in the campaign video. A company’s ownership of the finished video—or permission to publish it in another context—does not necessarily establish livestream and archive rights for every component.
YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to hold the necessary rights worldwide, including music licensing rights. YouTube scans live broadcasts for third-party content; a match can interrupt or terminate the stream. Even if you have a license, the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist for the livestream to proceed without a match-related interruption. Check the license and confirm any allowlisting requirement with the rights owner before scheduling the broadcast: YouTube livestream terms and YouTube’s guidance on copyrighted content in live streams.

YouTube says a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days to livestream. Confirm eligibility in advance rather than waiting until the campaign launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.

Loop one campaign video in OBS
- Open OBS and select the scene you want to use, or create a scene for the campaign broadcast.
- In the Sources panel, select + and add a Media Source. Give it a recognizable name, such as “Holiday campaign video.”
- In the source properties, select the local video file. OBS documentation lists support for formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM.
- Enable Loop in the Media Source properties, then confirm the source. OBS will replay the file after it reaches the end.
- Check the scene in the preview. Verify the picture framing, audio level, and what viewers will see or hear as the clip reaches its end and starts again. Looping controls local playback; it does not start the YouTube stream or guarantee a seamless transition.

Loop a playlist of campaign videos
For a sequence of clips, use OBS’s VLC Video source rather than adding a separate looping Media Source for each video.

- Install VLC. OBS’s VLC Video source requires VLC to be installed; if you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC.
- In OBS, select + in the Sources panel and add a VLC Video source.
- Open the source properties and add the campaign files to the playlist in the order you want viewers to see them.
- Enable Loop Playlist, then confirm the source.
- Preview the full sequence. Check the clip order, transitions or gaps, picture, and audio before connecting to YouTube.

Create a YouTube stream and connect OBS
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create a stream. If you want to promote the broadcast in advance, schedule it; viewers can see the upcoming event and opt in to notifications.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the event.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream. Choose YouTube as the service and enter or select the event’s server and stream key as appropriate for the interface. Keep the key private: it is the credential that lets YouTube accept the encoder’s feed.
- Apply the settings and return to the main OBS window. Start the encoder stream, then check the Live Control Room preview before making the event public or announcing that it is live.
YouTube’s encoder setup instructions explain how to connect an encoder. The stream key and URL connect the encoder to YouTube; the loop settings in OBS determine which local video or playlist is playing.

Prepare for a long broadcast
Do a launch check
For a scheduled event, YouTube advises setting up the encoder at least two hours beforehand and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start. Use that lead time to check that the preview appears, the event page is reachable, and audio and video are working. If OBS is configured to save a local recording, verify that the recording file is growing and continue monitoring the broadcast after launch. Follow YouTube’s streaming tips.
Plan around the 12-hour archive limit
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. For a nominal 24/7 campaign, do not promise viewers a complete replay from one continuous session. Keep a local recording if you need an archive, and consider ending and starting separate sessions so each is under 12 hours. That scheduling approach is a practical way to work within YouTube’s stated limits, not a guarantee that a session will avoid interruption. Troubleshoot common problems
- The video stops instead of repeating: Reopen the Media Source properties and make sure Loop is enabled. For a playlist, confirm that you added a VLC Video source and enabled Loop Playlist.
- OBS does not offer VLC Video: Install VLC and restart OBS. Match the VLC architecture to OBS; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- YouTube does not receive the feed: Confirm that OBS is using the stream URL and key for the correct YouTube event, and that the encoder is started. Treat the stream key as a private credential.
- The stream is interrupted by a copyright match: Review the rights for every element in the video. If you have a license, ask the rights owner whether your channel must be added to its Content ID allowlist; a license alone may not prevent an automated live interruption.
- The YouTube replay is missing or incomplete: A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Preserve a local recording and use shorter sessions if a YouTube archive matters.
- The preview has no sound or the wrong picture: Check the OBS scene and source, then inspect audio and video in the Live Control Room preview before launch. Continue monitoring after the broadcast begins.
