To turn on the built-in touchpad—sometimes called a “mouse pad”—press the keyboard key marked with a touchpad icon, often F6 or F9. Depending on your ASUS model and hotkey settings, you may need to press it alone or hold Fn while pressing it. If that does not work, search Windows for Touchpad settings and switch Touchpad to On.
Which key turns the touchpad back on?
Look across the function-key row for a keycap showing a touchpad icon. ASUS commonly places the toggle on F6 or F9, but the exact key varies by model. Press the icon key once; if your laptop uses the function keys for standard F1–F12 actions by default, try holding Fn as you press it. Watch for an on-screen notification that the touchpad has been enabled. ASUS describes F6 as a touchpad toggle on some keyboards, not as a universal assignment. See ASUS’s keyboard overview and touchpad troubleshooting guidance.
Turn the ASUS touchpad on in Windows
If the keyboard shortcut does not restore the pointer, use the Windows setting directly. ASUS documents this method for Windows 10 and Windows 11.
- Search the Windows taskbar for Touchpad settings.
- Open the matching settings result.
- Switch Touchpad to On.
ASUS’s instructions are available in its touchpad overview. This is a separate way to enable the touchpad, so use it even if the shortcut appears to run but nothing changes.

Keep the touchpad on when a mouse is connected
Windows may be configured to turn off the touchpad when an external mouse is connected. In Touchpad settings, find Leave touchpad on when a mouse is connected and enable it if you want to use both devices. ASUS includes this option in its touchpad troubleshooting steps.
A USB mouse can help you navigate Windows while the touchpad is unresponsive, but it is only a temporary workaround; connecting one does not enable or repair the built-in touchpad.

If the ASUS laptop touchpad is still not working
If the Windows toggle is on but the keyboard hotkey has no effect, the hotkey’s supporting software or drivers may need attention. ASUS recommends checking or reinstalling the ASUS System Control Interface for some hotkey problems. Driver requirements depend on the laptop, so identify the exact model and select drivers for that model and its operating system on the ASUS support site. Do not assume every ASUS laptop uses the same driver combination: ASUS’s example involving both the System Control Interface and a touchpad driver is model-specific. Follow the applicable model guidance and restart if its instructions call for it. See ASUS’s built-in keyboard troubleshooting guidance.

MyASUS may offer touchpad controls under device settings, but that option is not available on every ASUS notebook and depends on the model and software versions. If the MyASUS touchpad control is missing, ASUS says the BIOS setting Internal Point Device may be disabled. The described MyASUS touchpad function does not apply to models with ScreenPad. These are conditional checks, not required steps for every touchpad issue. See ASUS MyASUS device settings information.
