You can turn recorded gaming videos into a continuous YouTube Live rerun channel, but YouTube does not turn a playlist into a live broadcast by itself. You need a playback source that runs the videos in sequence, an encoder or cloud service that sends their audio and video to YouTube, and a live broadcast for viewers to watch.

How a playlist becomes a live channel

A YouTube playlist organizes videos; it is not an incoming live feed. YouTube’s system separates the stream—the audio-video signal sent by an encoder or service—from the broadcast—the live video page viewers watch. Its Live Streaming API guide describes a 24/7 feed as a valid use case, but the official material does not establish a direct playlist-to-live conversion or a one-click way to broadcast videos already hosted in a playlist.

For a rerun channel, the playback source must play your recordings continuously, and an encoder or hosted service must transmit that output to a YouTube Live broadcast. The source might be local video files or an online playlist, but compatibility depends on the playback tool you choose; verify it before relying on it.

Check YouTube eligibility and prepare the broadcast

YouTube Help’s current live-streaming guidance says the channel must be verified, must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and the person streaming must be at least 16. YouTube lists encoders as a streaming method and notes their use for gameplay. Confirm that the channel meets the current requirements and can start a live stream before building the rerun setup.

When using an adapter, if the device is recognized as USB 2.0, try using the other side with the USB-C port. Simply flip the capture card and reconnect it to be recognized as USB 3.0

Create the receiving live event in YouTube Studio, then use its stream details with the encoder or service that will send your feed. The broadcast is the viewer-facing video; the stream is the signal bound to it. You do not need to configure the Live Streaming API for an ordinary creator workflow.

Choose where playback and encoding will run

Local computer and encoder

With a local setup, a computer plays the recordings and runs encoder software continuously. This gives you direct control of local files and the output, but the computer, playback process, encoder, and internet connection all need to remain available. YouTube confirms that encoders are commonly used for gameplay; its guidance does not specify a required computer, capture card, or other hardware for replaying existing footage.

Cloud playback and encoding

A cloud service can host playback and send the feed without requiring your home computer to stay on. Before choosing one, check that it accepts your intended source, supports continuous looping or playlists, explains how it handles a dropped connection, and fits your operating budget. The YouTube live-stream model works with an incoming feed, but compatibility, pricing, and reliability are specific to each service.

Test the complete rerun before announcing it

Google’s Live Streaming Guide recommends testing the full setup with a private or unlisted stream, including the internet connection, capture and audio quality, and setup. For a gaming rerun, check the playback sequence, transitions between videos, audio levels, connection stability, and what viewers see if playback stops. Confirm that the live event receives the intended picture and sound before sharing it publicly.

  • Check that the first recording starts as expected and the playlist advances without a gap that stops the feed.
  • Listen for missing game audio, unexpectedly loud transitions, or audio that continues after the picture changes.
  • Observe the broadcast from a viewer’s perspective and confirm the event is public only when you intend it to be.
  • Decide how you will notice and recover from stopped playback or a disconnected stream.

Clear rights for every part of the recording

YouTube says all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including another copyrighted live broadcast. If it detects a match, YouTube may replace the live picture with a placeholder and warn you; the stream can be interrupted or terminated if the content remains. A copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also end a stream.

Owning a game or having previously uploaded a video does not, by itself, establish permission to rebroadcast every element live. YouTube also warns that licensed third-party content may still trigger interruption unless the rights owner adds your channel to its Content ID allowlist.
