You can turn a fiction podcast archive into a 24/7 YouTube live channel by sending prepared episodes and visuals through a live encoder—not by uploading a playlist and expecting it to broadcast. First clear the rights, choose a computer, cloud, or hardware encoder, connect it to YouTube with a stream key, and keep separate episode uploads for listeners who want to start a story from the beginning.

What an always-on podcast channel is—and what it is not

An always-on channel is a continuous live program assembled from prerecorded audio and accompanying visuals. An encoder sends that program to YouTube using a stream URL and stream key. YouTube supports encoder workflows alongside webcam and mobile streaming; a playlist by itself does not create a live broadcast. YouTube’s encoder setup is documented at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Think of the live channel as an internet radio-style way to discover or casually revisit stories. A listener may join in the middle of an episode, so show the episode title and make the sequence understandable. Keep a separate episode-level archive for people who want to choose a story and hear it from its beginning.

Before you build the rotation, clear the archive

Make an inventory of each episode’s master audio, script, music, sound effects, artwork, guest or performer agreements, and inserted clips. Confirm that the relevant permissions cover YouTube distribution and continuous public performance in the territories where you intend to broadcast. A contract’s terms are specific to your production; YouTube’s general guidance cannot establish what your agreements allow.

YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A match can replace the live image, interrupt the stream, or terminate it. If you have a license for material registered in Content ID, ask the rights owner to add your channel to its allowlist before broadcasting; a license alone may not prevent an interruption. An archived stream can also receive a Content ID claim after it ends. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

  • Keep written records of the rights and permissions you rely on for each episode.
  • Check music and sound-effect licenses as carefully as the script and performances; short inserted clips can matter too.
  • Coordinate Content ID allowlisting with the rights owner in advance when applicable.

Plan a listener-friendly program

Choose whether the channel will rotate complete episodes, themed blocks, or a mix. Prepare a visual frame that can stay on screen while the audio plays—such as show artwork, the current episode title, a simple schedule, or restrained animation. This is a production choice, not a YouTube requirement. Label the rotation clearly so a listener joining midway can tell what is playing and where to find the full episode.

Test a representative sequence before making it continuous. Confirm that audio levels are consistent, transitions are intentional, visuals match the show, and the order works for someone who has not heard earlier episodes. Keep the original episode files and publish separate episode videos or podcast entries; a long-running live feed is not a dependable substitute for an organized, searchable archive.

Choose how to keep the feed running

YouTube’s encoder guide identifies software, cloud, and hardware approaches, but it does not provide a like-for-like price or uptime comparison. Compare them by local operating burden, scheduling and recovery controls, visual requirements, cost, and how easily you can monitor a long-running program. Listed tools are options, not guarantees of uninterrupted service.

Cloud — StreamNeo StreamNeo keeps an uploaded-video YouTube stream running from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay running at home. It offers one flat price per slot for any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and a first day free with no card. See StreamNeo.
Software on a computer YouTube lists OBS as no-charge, open-source software. Media playback and visuals run through the local software encoder. You control the playback and visuals, but the computer, encoder configuration, and internet connection must remain available. YouTube’s listing does not promise 24/7 reliability.
Cloud service listed by YouTube YouTube lists Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming. Check the provider’s current pricing, media limits, restart behavior, and service status before relying on it.
Dedicated hardware YouTube lists the AJA HELO Plus and describes its PlayToStream function for scheduling prerecorded media directly to YouTube Live without a computer. This is a specialist hardware route. Verify current feature availability and workflow before buying.

Set up and start the YouTube live stream

  1. Enable live streaming early. YouTube says first-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours. Do this before your intended launch rather than on the day.
  2. Create or schedule the stream in YouTube Studio. Follow YouTube’s current encoder workflow to create the live event and obtain its server URL and stream key.
  3. Connect the encoder. Enter the server URL and stream key in your chosen encoder. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your channel. Do not publish it or include it in public screenshots.
  4. Start sending the program feed. Begin playback and encoding from the computer, cloud service, or hardware. Check that the incoming preview shows the intended visuals and that audio is present.
  5. Go live when required. For a scheduled stream, review the preview and click Go live in YouTube Studio when prompted. YouTube creates the live page when the encoder starts sending content; the scheduled workflow includes a preview-then-go-live step.

For the current platform-specific sequence, use YouTube’s encoder instructions. Exact Studio labels and available controls can change.

Keep episode replay separate from the live rotation

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its documentation does not promise automatic archiving for streams that exceed 12 hours, so do not rely on a continuous broadcast as the complete replay library. Preserve the masters and publish individual episodes or organize a podcast archive alongside the live channel. Google’s Live Streaming API guide also describes a 24/7 broadcast alongside a separate video for an interview that occurs during it.

If available to your channel, YouTube’s RSS delivery can create static-show-art videos from selected audio-first podcast episodes and upload future episodes. It is a separate episode-upload route, not a continuous live stream. Availability is region-limited; back-catalog episodes added through RSS do not notify subscribers, and changes to published audio are not silently reflected in the YouTube upload. Review YouTube’s RSS podcast instructions for current availability, episode selection, and workflow.

Understand monetization and policy risk

Monetization is not automatic just because the channel is live or the episodes are yours. YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to live streams and expect original, authentic material. The policy says repetitive, mass-produced, or interchangeable content may be ineligible; a recurring series can qualify when episodes have distinct storylines or focus. It considers the channel as a whole, including its theme, high-watch-time videos, metadata, and About section. A fiction archive is not categorically disqualified, but no general rule guarantees that a particular channel will be accepted or monetized. Read YouTube’s monetization policies.

  • With Scarlett 4th Gen, you have all you need to record, mix and master your music: Includes industry-leading recording software and a full collection of record-making plugins

YouTube’s policy clarification dated July 15, 2025 identifies repetitive or mass-produced material under its inauthentic-content policy. Assess whether each episode offers distinct substance rather than relying on a different title or artwork for otherwise interchangeable uploads.

For the RSS workflow specifically, YouTube says imported podcast content cannot contain advertisements under its instructions. Sponsorships, endorsements, and branded content must be disclosed through the relevant settings and comply with applicable policy. Check the current RSS guidance before importing an ad-bearing feed.

Troubleshoot common launch problems

  • Live streaming is not available: If this is your first time enabling it, activation may take up to 24 hours. Enable the feature early and confirm availability before scheduling your launch.
  • YouTube shows no incoming preview: Confirm the encoder is sending, and check that the stream URL and key match the live event. If the key was exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
  • The scheduled event is not public yet: Starting the encoder sends the feed, but a scheduled stream may still require you to review the preview and select Go live.
  • The image is replaced or the stream is interrupted: YouTube may have detected third-party content. Check rights and Content ID status, and ask the rights owner about channel allowlisting where relevant. Continued matches can lead to interruption or termination.
  • The long stream is missing from the archive: YouTube’s automatic archive statement covers streams under 12 hours, not streams beyond that duration. Use separately published episode videos for reliable episode access.
  • Listeners cannot find a story’s beginning: A viewer can join a continuous feed at any point. Publish and organize individual episodes separately, and make the live rotation’s current title and sequence visible.

Or let it run in the cloud

With StreamNeo, upload your fiction episodes, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The stream runs from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Every slot supports uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card; after that, the Monthly plan is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo streams uploaded videos to YouTube; it does not broadcast a live camera feed. Start your free StreamNeo day.
