If ChatGPT shows a blank page, keeps loading, reports a network error, or says “Sorry, you have been blocked,” start by identifying which kind of problem you have. Check OpenAI’s service status, then test browser and network settings. An “unsupported country” notice is different: check OpenAI’s current supported-country list rather than trying to bypass regional availability.
First identify which ChatGPT access problem you have
The error message and whether the problem changes across browsers or networks help distinguish a technical fault from an IP block or a regional restriction.

Fix blank pages, loading loops, and network or websocket errors
OpenAI’s troubleshooting guidance recommends starting with checks that can reveal a temporary service issue or isolate a problem in your browser or connection.

1. Check for a service incident
- Open OpenAI’s status page and look for an incident affecting ChatGPT.
- If no relevant issue is listed, refresh ChatGPT or start a new chat and check whether the error clears.
2. Test the browser without its usual add-ons
- Open ChatGPT in a private or incognito window. If that works, browser state or an extension may be interfering.
- Try a different browser. Temporarily disable extensions, especially privacy or security tools, script blockers, and content blockers.
- If the issue continues, clear ChatGPT’s browser cache, cookies, or site data. Sign out and back in if needed.
Clearing site data can remove stored session information, so you may need to sign in again.

3. Check VPN, proxy, and security filters
For network and websocket errors or persistent loading, OpenAI advises turning off VPNs or proxies and disabling security filters, including secure-DNS or web-protection products. Then retry ChatGPT. A VPN is not a general fix for access problems, and it does not make an unsupported location supported.
4. Compare another network or device
If you can, open ChatGPT on a different device or connect through another network. If it works there, the original network or device configuration is a likely factor; if the same problem follows you across browsers, devices, and networks, proceed to support with diagnostic details.

What to do when ChatGPT says “Sorry, you have been blocked”
OpenAI says this message can result from Cloudflare blocking an IP address. Its explanation includes VPN use, geolocation, and temporary IP restrictions as possible factors; the message alone does not establish which one applies.

- Turn off a VPN or proxy, then try again.
- If possible, try from another location.
- If the restriction is temporary, waiting may resolve it. OpenAI does not promise a particular wait time or an instant fix.

Check regional availability instead of trying to bypass it
ChatGPT is not available in every country or territory. Check OpenAI’s current supported-country list; availability can change, so rely on the live list rather than an old copy or a general claim about a whole region.
OpenAI warns: “Accessing or offering access to ChatGPT or the OpenAI API from an unsupported country may result in your account being blocked or suspended.” Do not treat a VPN or proxy as a workaround for that restriction.

If you are traveling
An account created in a supported region may still have trouble when you travel to an unsupported region. OpenAI also says an unsupported-region message can sometimes persist after you return to a supported region.

Contact Support with useful diagnostics
If the error persists across browsers, devices, and networks, OpenAI recommends collecting information that can help diagnose the failure before contacting Support.
