If your Motorola Razr is not charging, start with a wall outlet, a securely connected charger and cable that are compatible with your exact model, and time for a fully depleted battery to show a charging indicator. For slow charging, check the power source, phone use, temperature, and—on models that support it—wireless placement. If the phone still will not power on, try a force reboot while it is connected to a wall charger.
Check the outlet, charger, and cable first
- Connect the Razr to a wall outlet with its supplied charger and cable, or an accessory confirmed compatible with that exact model. Motorola notes that computer USB ports and vehicle adapters may charge more slowly. Motorola’s Razr charging guidance and its charging system checklist recommend checking the power source and connections.
- Make sure the cable fits securely into both the phone and the adapter. Try another known-good outlet. If available, test a known-good compatible cable or adapter, changing one item at a time. This is a practical way to isolate a faulty accessory, not a Motorola-published test protocol.
- If the screen stays blank, leave the phone connected before concluding that charging has failed. Motorola explains that a fully discharged phone may not show its battery outline or percentage until it receives the minimum voltage needed to boot. Motorola’s guidance for the Razr 40 describes this behavior.
What to check when charging is slow
Use a suitable wall charger and limit phone use
Use the charger and cable specified for your model, plugged into a wall outlet. Charging from a computer or vehicle adapter may be slower, and using the phone while it charges affects how quickly the battery gains charge. Motorola’s charging system checklist also says not to recharge the phone below 0°C (32°F) or above 45°C (113°F).
Check wireless charging placement, if your model supports it
Wireless charging is not available on every Razr. Confirm that your specific model supports it, then use a Qi-certified charger and align the phone’s wireless charging area with the pad according to the charger’s instructions. Motorola says thick, metal-backed, magnetic, or kickstand cases may interfere with wireless charging. Wired charging is generally faster. Motorola’s Razr charging guidance covers these checks.
Allow for battery-life settling after a software update
Motorola’s charging checklist advises using the device for 3–5 days after a software update to reach optimal battery life. This is general battery-life guidance, not a promised charging repair or a wait time for a charging indicator to appear. See Motorola’s checklist.

Choose a charger for the exact Razr model
Charging requirements vary across generations and market variants. The following fastest-charging configurations are from Motorola’s North American 2025 user guide; they are not universal specifications for every Razr or country. Use the corresponding compatible cable, and check the regional guide for your exact model before buying a replacement. Motorola’s North American 2025 user guide warns that noncompliant chargers may be unsafe and may cause slow charging, product damage, or reduced performance.

When checking a replacement, match the model and generation, charging protocol and wattage, connector type, and cable. A higher wattage by itself does not guarantee a particular charging speed. If considering wireless charging, verify that the model supports it.

If your Razr will not turn on
- Check that the charger is plugged into a working wall outlet and that both cable connections are secure.
- With the phone connected to the wall charger, hold the power key for 10 seconds to force a reboot. Motorola says this action does not delete data. Its no-power guidance recommends this step.
- Retry the power key while the phone remains connected. A completely depleted battery may need to receive enough voltage before an indicator appears or the phone can boot.
If the phone remains unresponsive after these checks, a hardware problem is possible. Motorola says a hardware failure may require repair or replacement; contact Motorola support for the appropriate next step. These checks cannot determine the phone’s condition remotely.
