You can trade in an eligible old phone toward a Google Pixel through Google Store, but you must add the trade-in during checkout. Google gives an estimate based on the phone details you submit; it confirms the value after inspecting the device. Check the live estimate for your country, old phone, and chosen Pixel before deciding whether the deal is worthwhile.
Can you trade in your old phone for a Google Pixel?
Google Store’s standard trade-in program is listed in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Eligibility depends on the country, the new Pixel you select, and the old phone’s make, model, storage, and condition. Google’s eligible-device list is refreshed every 30 days. The selector appears after you choose a new device. If your old phone’s manufacturer, model, or storage capacity is not offered there, Google says it is not eligible for that transaction. The list can differ by country and Pixel, so an old phone qualifying for one order does not establish that it will qualify for another.

- Choose your Pixel. On Google Store, select the Pixel model and configuration you want to buy.
- Add the trade-in during checkout. Use the trade-in option to find your old phone and request an estimate. Google says you cannot add a trade-in after completing the purchase. See Google’s trade-in instructions.
- Enter the old phone’s details accurately. Select its actual manufacturer, model, storage, and condition. Google says the submitted manufacturer and model cannot be changed after you place the order.
- Review the estimated amount and the changed-value choice. Read what happens if inspection finds the phone is worth less than estimated. In the US, the available outcome can depend on the trade-in path: a lower value may mean a charge or a returned device.
- Complete the Pixel order and follow the trade-in email. Use the preparation and shipping instructions in the order email, and send the phone by the deadline stated for your transaction.
How much is your old phone worth?
There is no single reliable trade-in amount for a phone model without knowing the country, the selected Pixel, the exact device and storage, its condition, and any current promotion. Google says its estimate uses the information submitted, current market value, and possibly promotional value; the amount can change. Even that estimate is provisional. Google inspects the received phone and determines the final value. As Google Store Help puts it, “Your device’s condition can change the trade-in value.” Google’s condition requirements explain the factors that may affect the assessment.
To judge the savings, compare the Pixel’s net cost after the final trade-in credit—not just the estimate—with the amount you would pay without trading in. If you are also considering selling the phone or using another provider, compare exact offers available in your market; no one alternative is established as best for every phone and location.

When do you receive the trade-in credit?
Google offers different timing depending on the trade-in option and your eligibility. With a standard trade-in, credit generally goes to the payment method after Google receives and inspects the old phone. With instant trade-in, if offered to you, the estimated amount is applied as a discount at checkout and you send the phone afterward.
Google’s US instructions say an instant-trade-in phone must be shipped within 30 days. Missing that deadline or having the inspection value come in below the estimate can result in a charge for some or all of the upfront credit. For the US process, Google says devices are usually checked within five business days after receipt, and a credit-card refund may take up to 14 business days to appear. These are process estimates, not guaranteed delivery or payment dates; local terms may differ.
What condition does the phone need to be in?
Answer Google’s condition questions honestly. Power and charging problems, screen or body damage, an activation lock, a model mismatch, late shipment, or a phone reported lost or stolen can affect eligibility or value. Review Google’s trade-in condition requirements before sending the device.

- Check that the phone matches the model and storage you selected.
- Describe damage and whether the phone powers on and charges as the form asks.
- Follow Google’s device-preparation and shipping directions in the order email.
- Do not mail a phone with a damaged or swollen battery; Google explicitly says not to send one.
Can you trade in the phone in a store?
If you buy a Pixel in a Google retail store, an associate can assess your old phone and provide same-day credit. This is a separate route from an online purchase. Ordering online and choosing store pickup does not turn the trade-in into an in-person exchange: the old phone must still be sent through the mail-in process. Check Google’s store trade-in guidance.

What to check before placing the order
- Country and Pixel: Confirm that the trade-in option and old phone appear for the country and new device you selected.
- Final value: Treat the checkout figure as an estimate until inspection is complete.
- Payment and risk: Understand whether credit comes after inspection or is applied upfront, and what happens if the final value changes.
- Deadline: Follow the date in your order instructions; the US instant-trade-in route specifies a 30-day shipping deadline.
- Net savings: Compare what you will actually pay after credit with other offers you can verify for your location.
