For the most reliable UK launch updates, start with SaxaVord Spaceport’s viewing information, follow the spaceport’s news and the relevant launch operator, and check official aviation and maritime notices for restrictions. SaxaVord says launches will be livestreamed and that it will give at least 24 hours’ notice of a planned launch. A published launch window is a range of possible attempt times, not a confirmed appointment.
Where to get UK rocket launch updates
Start with SaxaVord’s official viewing information
SaxaVord’s viewing page is the best starting point for launch-window information and arrangements for watching from Unst. The spaceport says more precise details will be published when it and its clients announce specific windows. The page also explains how viewing passes, locations, road closures and exclusion zones are handled.
Follow the spaceport and the launch operator
Check SaxaVord’s news feed for spaceport and client-campaign updates, and consider subscribing to SaxaVoice, its newsletter. Then follow the operator for the particular vehicle: for example, Rocket Factory Augsburg (RFA) for RFA One, or HyImpulse for its SR75. Campaign updates can provide useful context, but look for a mission-specific attempt date before making plans.

Use trackers as a secondary check
Independent launch trackers can make it easy to scan schedules, but they are not operational notices and their status may be stale. Check the tracker’s update date and compare it with newer statements from SaxaVord and the operator. For airspace or maritime restrictions, rely on official notices and instructions from the relevant authorities.

How to interpret a launch window and notice
SaxaVord says a launch window may cover several weeks, with attempts possible only on specified days and during specified hours. The spaceport says it will give at least 24 hours’ notice of a planned launch. Neither a broad window nor that notice policy guarantees that a rocket will fly on the first possible day: readiness, conditions and coordination can affect the schedule.
The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) describes an illustrative coordination sequence in its airspace-change appendix: informal advance notice around three months before launch, a NOTAM submission around 28 days before, a broad window around nine days before, and possible refinements around three days and one day before. These are planning examples, not universal deadlines or a guaranteed timetable for every flight. A NOTAM is an aviation notice; it is not a public launch confirmation.

What is currently known about SaxaVord campaigns
As of SaxaVord’s update dated 8 September 2026, RFA was working towards the first vertical orbital test flight from UK soil, while HyImpulse was preparing a suborbital launch campaign. SaxaVord’s March 2026 announcement had described the second SR75 flight as a target for later in 2026. These are campaign-level plans, not confirmed attempt dates.
An independent UK Space Launches tracker showed RFA One as “launch on hold” in a status updated 29 July 2026, citing an issue found during pressurisation testing and a previously announced August window. Treat that as the tracker’s dated July snapshot, not proof that the hold remains in effect. Check the latest RFA and SaxaVord statements for current status. No confirmed October 2026 attempt date was present in the official pages reviewed for this article; that does not rule out a later notice.

How to watch a launch
Watch online
SaxaVord says test flights and launches will be livestreamed. Check the official announcement for the specific stream link and start time; a general livestream plan does not establish when a particular broadcast will begin.
Attend only through the authorised viewing arrangements
SaxaVord says a limited number of passes for an authorised viewing area will be offered first to people living on Unst; any remaining passes may be made available beyond the island. Its March 2026 announcement says viewing areas and pass arrangements are subject to CAA licensing conditions. On launch days, strict exclusion zones and road closures apply. A public launch window does not grant access to the launch area, so follow the spaceport’s current instructions and do not approach restricted locations.

SaxaVord says air traffic will be rerouted. Vessels must leave a small maritime exclusion zone north of Unst, and a wider warning zone will be communicated to vessels by radio. Authorities notify affected airspace and maritime users. These measures are operational restrictions, not viewing guidance for the general public.

Unst is remote, and SaxaVord notes that accommodation is limited and ferry places can be at a premium. A window lasting several weeks can mean travelling without seeing an attempt, so people coming from outside Shetland should weigh the cost and time against the possibility of watching online. Confirm pass availability, transport and local arrangements with official sources before setting out.

Why licence and safety notices are not the same as a launch date
Several different approvals and notices can appear in coverage, but they do not all mean a launch is imminent. The CAA explains that SaxaVord’s range-control licence covers safety-critical range services; a range licence alone is not permission to launch. The CAA announced RFA’s vehicle launch licence in January 2025 and said it would continue monitoring safety conditions. UK government guidance on launch licensing and airspace coordination, reviewed in July 2026, describes the associated requirements. For a particular flight, distinguish a licence, a campaign target, a published window, an attempt notice and an actual launch update.
