If the War Journal says you collected fewer items than you remember picking up, use its act or chapter count to narrow the search, then compare that section with a checklist of named collectibles. A lower count has been reported by one player, but that report does not establish a widespread bug or a confirmed fix. As of October 4, 2026, Xbox lists Gears of War: E-Day for release on October 6, 2026, so this cleanup guidance is for when the campaign is available to play.
Start with the War Journal, not your memory
Check the War Journal and note which act or chapter has a short count. A total tells you where to investigate; it does not identify the object you missed. Match the short section against a guide that lists individual collectibles and their locations.
Keep collectible progress separate from other campaign completion categories. The independent E-Day Wiki compilation distinguishes collectibles from Hard Cases, Supply Cache locations, and Secondary Objectives. A short collectible count does not, by itself, mean one of those other lists is incomplete.

The E-Day Wiki’s guide compilation, updated October 3, 2026, aggregates the following campaign totals from published guides. These are guide figures, not an official Xbox or The Coalition statistic.

If your count is short in one act, use the guide’s chapter breakdown to find the likely section, then check the named entries there. Don’t treat the overall total as proof that a particular act or chapter is complete.
Check transitions before deciding an act is incomplete
Some guide counts assign a collectible to an act even though you pick it up after crossing into the next one. For example, GamersBeacon’s Act 3 guide counts “Commander’s Letter Home” among Act 3’s 36 collectibles, while stating that the pickup is at the beginning of Act 4. If Act 3 appears one short, continue into Act 4 and check that location before concluding the item was missed.

Those chapter figures add up to the guide’s Act 3 total of 36. Its transition note matters: the last listed item is credited to Act 3 but picked up at the start of Act 4.
Replay the narrowest chapter that contains the missing item
- Record the short act or chapter. Use the War Journal’s progress information to narrow down where to look.
- Find the missing named entry. Compare that chapter with a checklist that gives individual item names and locations; a count alone cannot tell you which pickup is absent.
- Check for a transition pickup. If the item is at an act boundary, follow the guide’s route into the next act before deciding the earlier act is incomplete.
- Replay the relevant chapter for cleanup. Published guides describe chapter replay or starting a new save from selected chapters as cleanup options. Match the item to its chapter first, and preserve your main save.
Some guide sources report audio cues or controller vibration near collectibles. Treat these as prompts to search nearby, not confirmation that every item or completion category in the chapter is accounted for. The sources reviewed do not establish that every collectible transfers between co-op saves.

What a count mismatch does—and does not—show
One Reddit player reported believing they had picked up 38 different collectibles in Act 2 while the War Journal showed 37. That is an individual report, not evidence that the issue is widespread. The report does not verify a cause or provide a confirmed remedy.
If your journal and memory disagree, check the chapter route and named-item checklist first. The available evidence supports describing tracking problems as player-reported; it does not establish an official bug diagnosis or fix.
