To keep up with animals and seasonal events in Village in the Shade, maintain three separate checklists: animal care and unlocks, the four seasonal festivals, and the Day 27 evaluation contests. Patch 1.20 is live as of September 28, 2026; record the patch number and date with your notes so you can distinguish current changes from events planned for later updates.
What Patch 1.20 changes for tracking
Patch 1.20 became available on September 28, 2026, according to the official update announcement. Its animal and farm changes affect what belongs on a current checklist:
- Silkie Chickens and Mallards: Chinana sells them after you reach Autumn of Year 1. They lay eggs daily and occasionally leave feathers.
- Fluffy Cows and Spotted Goats: Chinana sells them after you have purchased at least one goat. The update says they produce milk and goat’s milk daily, respectively.
- Ghost Cow: Patch 1.20 says it no longer appears during weeks that include an evaluation event.
- Scarecrows: Focus on a scarecrow to see its remaining active days. Crops in range no longer wither on the day the scarecrow breaks.
The official notes say livestock behavior was improved and that ducks eat more weeds in paddies based on affection, but they do not explain the full behavior system. Use the official Patch 1.20 notes for these changes rather than assuming unlisted mechanics.
Track livestock with one row per animal
A simple spreadsheet or notebook can make daily care, products, and event preparation easier to manage. The independent livestock reference describes the general loop as building suitable housing, buying available animals from Chinana, feeding them daily, petting regularly, monitoring mood, and collecting products. It reports that higher affection improves product quality; it does not establish an official formula for fair scores.
#1 Best Overall
- Marketing: Village in the Shade is a one-of-a-kind cozy life simulation that blends the “Cozy life sim” with Japanese horror, folklore and yokai.
- A life simulation game set in a nostalgic and distinctly Japanese world, offering an experience unlike Western-style farming simulations.
- Beautiful hand-drawn visuals paired with charming anime-style characters that resonate with a wide audience.
- Deluxe Edition includes: Village in the Shade GAME, Digital Soundtrack (download code), Mini Art Book
| Field | What to record |
|---|---|
| Animal and shelter | Species or animal name, plus the shelter where it lives. |
| Unlock and purchase | Prerequisite, purchase status, and the date or season it became available. |
| Daily care | Last fed, last petted, affection, and mood. |
| Products | Expected product, whether it is ready, and whether you collected it. |
| Contest preparation | Whether the animal is a candidate for the Livestock division and any preparation notes. |
| Version note | Patch number and date for a new unlock or changed behavior. |
Use unlock conditions as reminders
For the Patch 1.20 animals, mark Silkie Chickens and Mallards for Autumn of Year 1. Mark Fluffy Cows and Spotted Goats only after you have bought at least one goat. Both unlock rules are described in the official update notes.
Keep animal care separate from unconfirmed scoring theories
The livestock reference discusses affection and mood in connection with contests, but some fair and Ghost Cow explanations are community-reported rather than official scoring rules. In particular, five visible hearts do not guarantee an S-rank result. Record observable care and animal status; do not treat a community explanation as a confirmed score formula.

Track the four festivals by date and time
The independent festival guide lists four major festivals at Village Plaza. Go to the plaza when the event’s in-game time arrives and choose to enter. The listed names and timings are fan-guide information, not an official in-game calendar confirmation.

Check the terminology in the game after that localization is released; do not assume the planned patch is already live.

Keep Day 27 evaluation contests separate from festivals
Seasonal evaluation contests are a different event from the four festivals. The independent contest guide lists an event on Day 27 of each season at Village Plaza, from 10:00 to 16:00. It says you must choose one division—Crop, Livestock, or Horse—and cannot enter all three on the same day.
- Add Day 27, 10:00–16:00, to each season’s calendar.
- Choose a single division before planning entries.
- For a Livestock entry, note animal mood and affection in advance, while treating the guide’s rank guidance as guide-reported mechanics rather than an official formula.
- Account for Patch 1.20’s change: Ghost Cow does not appear during weeks that include an evaluation event.
What you can and cannot track about wild animals
The available official update notes and independent references do not document a comprehensive in-game tracker or a precise spawn calendar for all wild animals. Keep notes on animals you encounter if useful, but there is not enough established information here to give confirmed locations or schedules. Patch 1.20’s scarecrow display is a crop-management feature, not a general animal tracker.
