Track a Michigan absentee ballot through the state’s official ballot-tracking page. Search with your name, birth month and year, and ZIP code, or use your driver’s license number. In the “Absentee ballot” section, check when the ballot was sent and whether your local clerk received it.
Check your ballot status online
- Open Michigan’s ballot-tracking page.
- Look up your voter record using your name, birth month and year, and ZIP code, or search with your driver’s license number.
- Find the “Absentee ballot” section. It shows the date the ballot was sent and whether the local clerk received the completed ballot.
Sign up for email notifications
Michigan’s ballot-tracking page also lets you request email updates about the clerk sending and receiving your ballot. Look up your voter record, enter an email address, check the consent box, and submit.
Why an in-person return may not show as received
If you return your ballot at an early voting site or on Election Day, the online tracker will not show it as “received,” and you will not get a receipt notification. That status limitation does not mean the ballot was lost; it means the tracker does not report those in-person returns as received.

An ordinary absentee ballot must reach your local clerk’s office by 8 p.m. on Election Day to count. Military and overseas ballots follow a separate rule: they must be postmarked on or before Election Day and received by the local clerk within six days after the election. - If your ballot has not arrived or the status is unclear, check your voter registration record and address through the state’s voter information service.
- For an individual question about whether an application or ballot was mailed or received, contact your local clerk. Michigan’s absentee voting guidance directs voters to the clerk for these questions.
