To test an Indian bank website’s desktop and mobile layouts, capture the same public page and interaction state at repeatable viewport sizes, then check both what the screenshots show and whether key controls work. Include a narrow 320 CSS-pixel layout check, desktop and mobile portrait, and any intermediate or landscape size relevant to the site. Record the browser, operating system, viewport, zoom and capture time so findings can be reproduced. Screenshots are review evidence—not proof of accessibility, security or compatibility across every device.
Set a safe scope before capturing
Use public pages or an approved test environment
Suitable targets include a bank’s home page, product and information pages, help or contact pages, and branch or ATM locators. For a formal review, ask the site owner for its supported browser and device matrix and use a bank-approved staging environment or test data where needed. Do not sign in to a live customer account just to create screenshots.
Keep credentials, account numbers, balances, personal details, OTPs and transaction information out of captures. If an authorized test flow contains sensitive-looking information, use approved synthetic data and redact it before sharing, following the bank’s own data-handling rules. The available guidance does not establish a screenshot-specific redaction standard.

A screenshot can document visible layout and selected interaction states; it cannot establish that a site is secure. GIGW says a website or app should undergo security audit and receive audit clearance before production hosting. A screenshot comparison is not that audit. GIGW guidance and its cybersecurity guidance cover broader quality, accessibility and security considerations.

Keep the page state consistent
At each size, use the same page URL, content state and interaction state. Note whether a cookie or consent banner is present; dismissing it in one capture but not another can make a misleading comparison. Record:
- Page URL and capture date and time
- Browser name and version, operating system and device
- Viewport width and height in CSS pixels, orientation and browser zoom
- Network condition and whether consent banners or other overlays are visible
- Any interaction needed to reach the captured state, such as opening a menu
Cover the widths that answer your question
Capture at least one desktop viewport and mobile portrait. Add mobile landscape or an intermediate/tablet width if the layout changes at that breakpoint or those configurations are in scope. Include a 320 CSS-pixel check: GIGW describes responsive design without horizontal scrolling at a width equivalent to 320 CSS pixels and recommends testing multiple browsers, versions, operating systems, connection speeds and screen resolutions. This is a useful checkpoint, not a claim that one width proves mobile compatibility.
Do not assume that a single viewport or browser represents every bank customer. Indian Bank’s February 6, 2026 procurement document gives one bank-specific example: it describes compatibility testing across browsers and devices, including mobile, and responsive UI testing across form factors with attention to accessibility, readability and usability. That is an example requirement, not a universal bank standard. Indian Bank procurement document
Capture screenshots and compare them
- Open the approved page. Use the same URL and content state at each viewport. Avoid live account data.
- Set and record the viewport. Note CSS-pixel dimensions, orientation and zoom; keep the browser and operating-system details with the capture.
- Capture a viewport image. This shows the initial screen and is useful for checking the header, navigation, first content and visible calls to action.
- Capture a full-page image when useful. This helps inspect content farther down the page, but compare like with like and note that dynamic or lazy-loaded content can change what appears.
- Align the same region before comparing. Look for content order changes, clipped text or controls, unexpected horizontal scrolling, overlapping elements and differences in spacing that impede use.
- Log defects as observable findings. Record location, expected behavior, observed behavior, browser/device configuration and the screenshot reference. For example: “Mobile portrait, 320 CSS px: primary navigation extends beyond the viewport; expected links remain reachable without horizontal scrolling.”
Do not treat a raw pixel-difference image as the verdict. Font rendering and changing content can produce harmless pixel differences; the review should explain whether a difference affects readability, reachability or use.
Check behavior and accessibility, not only fit
For each relevant page and viewport, inspect the following. Some checks require interacting with the live page or using accessibility tools; a static screenshot alone cannot verify them.
- Content and layout: Is the reading order sensible? Are headings, images, forms and important actions visible and unclipped? Does the page avoid unwanted horizontal scrolling?
- Navigation: Can the mobile menu open and close? Are links visible, understandable and reachable?
- Controls and forms: Can buttons be reached and used? Are form fields clearly labelled, and do labels remain associated and readable at narrower widths?
- Text and readability: Does user-adjustable text size remain usable? Is text legible without overlap or loss of content?
- Keyboard and assistive technology: Can a keyboard user reach controls and identify focus? Where the scope calls for it, check with assistive technology rather than inferring accessibility from appearance.
- Contrast and visual clarity: Can text, focus indicators and controls be distinguished in the states being reviewed?
The Ministry of Finance banking accessibility guidelines excerpt addresses keyboard support, adjustable text size, alternate text, consistent navigation and assistive technology. The RBI’s October 11, 2024 notification advises payment system participants to review payment systems and devices for accessibility, while cautioning that changes should not compromise security. Validate on a physical phone when it matters
Browser responsive emulation is useful for repeatable viewport comparisons without dedicated hardware. A real phone can reveal behavior emulation misses, including device-specific rendering or interaction details. But one handset does not establish coverage across all devices or supported configurations. For a formal review, use the bank’s declared support matrix and report which physical devices and browser configurations were actually tested.

For customer safety rather than QA criteria, Bank of India advises customers to verify the website address and padlock before entering credentials and to use an up-to-date browser. That advice is not a screenshot-testing standard. Bank of India safe-banking advice
Report the limits of the evidence
A useful screenshot review identifies exactly what was checked: pages, viewports, browsers and versions, operating systems, physical devices, network conditions and interaction states. List gaps as well. Describe findings as evidence about visible layout and the selected interactions—not as certification, a security assessment or proof that the site works on every device. Ask the site owner to confirm supported configurations when that information is not public.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. A single GET request can return a screenshot as PNG, JPEG or WebP, or a PDF. For a repeatable capture of a public page, this cURL example saves a WebP file; see the ScreenshotNeo documentation for request options and setup.

Before capture, ScreenshotNeo accepts the cookie or consent banner like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets; each of these steps can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits cost nothing, and the response identifies the page verdict and billing status in headers. Does a screenshot comparison prove that an Indian bank site is accessible?
No. Screenshots can document visible states, but accessibility checks such as keyboard navigation, text resizing and assistive-technology use require interaction and appropriate testing.
Best Value
Should I use a real customer login to test the mobile layout?
No. Use public pages or a bank-approved test environment and approved synthetic data; keep customer credentials and account or transaction details out of captures.
Does passing the 320 CSS-pixel check mean a site works on every phone?
No. It is a useful GIGW responsive-layout checkpoint. It does not replace testing the browsers, devices and configurations relevant to the site.
