To test a screenshot API in Postman, create a request using the provider’s exact method, endpoint, authentication, and parameter format; send it; then inspect both the HTTP response and the captured page. There is no universal screenshot API request shape, so the provider’s documentation is the source of truth.

Build the request from the provider’s documentation

  1. Create a request: In Postman, select the HTTP method and enter the exact endpoint URL documented by the provider. Screenshot API documentation reviewed for this guide describes GET /v1/screenshot; another provider documents GET and POST /api/v1/screenshot; ScreenshotEngine’s quickstart uses POST /v1/screenshot. These are examples, not interchangeable endpoints.
  2. Set authentication: Open the request’s Authorization tab or add the required header under Headers, matching the provider’s instructions. Examples include Bearer authentication, an X-API-Key header, and Basic Auth. Do not swap one scheme for another.
  3. Add the target URL and options: For a GET request, put query parameters in Postman’s Params tab. For a POST request, choose Body and enter the documented JSON or other payload. Include only parameters the endpoint supports. Documented capture options in the reviewed references include viewport dimensions, image format, and full-page capture.
  4. Send the request: Select Send. Check the HTTP status, response headers, and body or redirect to determine what the endpoint returned.
  5. Check the actual capture: Open or save the image, or inspect the JSON fields specified by the provider. If the API exposes the target page’s status, check it too; an image can show a login screen or an error page even when the API request itself succeeds.

Interpret the response correctly

Separate two questions: did the API handle the request, and did it capture the page you intended? An HTTP success status answers the first, not necessarily the second.

  • Image bytes: Check Content-Type and the response body. Some endpoints return raw image data. In Postman, use its response preview where available or save the response to inspect the file.
  • JSON: Read the documented response fields rather than assuming the body is an image. Some APIs return JSON by default or provide image data alongside metadata.
  • Redirect: If the provider documents a redirect response, follow its instructions for obtaining or saving the resulting image.
  • Target-page status: Where supported, inspect the provider’s page-status field or header. Screenshot API documentation describes X-Page-Status; its documentation notes that login and error pages may still be rendered as images.

Know which details vary by provider

The reviewed documentation illustrates why you should configure each Postman request from the specific service’s reference rather than copying another provider’s example.

Documented example Method and endpoint Authentication Response or payload detail
Screenshot API, screenshot endpoint GET /v1/screenshot Bearer token Raw image bytes
screenshot-api.org GET or POST /api/v1/screenshot Bearer token or X-API-Key JSON is the default; a redirect option is documented
ScreenshotEngine quickstart POST /v1/screenshot Bearer token JSON request body; quickstart describes saving a PNG response
LambdaTest Postman Network example Screenshot test request Basic Auth Follow that example’s request instructions

These details describe the cited examples, not every endpoint offered by those services. Confirm the current endpoint reference for the API and operation you are testing.

Troubleshoot a failed or unexpected capture

  • Authentication error: Confirm the credential is valid and placed where the endpoint expects it: Bearer header, API-key header, or Basic Auth. A valid key sent using the wrong scheme may still be rejected.
  • Bad request or missing-parameter response: Check the exact method, endpoint path, required target URL, and field names. Make sure query parameters are in Params for a query-based request or that the POST body uses the documented format.
  • Unexpected response type: Check Content-Type, the response body, and whether the provider documents JSON, binary image data, or a redirect. Do not treat every successful response as a downloadable image.
  • The image shows a login, error, or wrong page: Inspect the capture itself and any target-page status signal the API provides. The endpoint may have successfully returned an image of an unintended page.
  • The request works in another tool but not Postman: Compare the method, full URL, authentication placement, query parameters, body format, and headers against the provider’s documented example.

Or skip the browser setup

If you want to make a screenshot request without assembling a browser-capture workflow, ScreenshotNeo accepts a GET request with the target URL. For example, save a WebP capture of a page with cURL:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie and consent banners before capture and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides screenshot, page-info, and PDF tools for AI agents. The Free plan includes 1,000 shots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Frequently Asked Questions

Does Postman need to render the target website to test a screenshot API?

No. Postman sends the HTTP request and displays or saves the API response; the screenshot service captures the target page.
