A good Apple deal is a lower price for the exact product and configuration you want, compared with a credible reference price—not merely a large “percent off” label. Check the item, seller, checkout total, offer conditions, and recent pricing before deciding. There is no universal discount threshold that makes an Apple deal good.
1. Make sure you are comparing the same Apple product
Small differences in configuration can make two listings look comparable when they are not. Match the generation and chip, memory, storage, screen size, connectivity, condition, and included items. Also distinguish a new product from refurbished or otherwise non-new stock.

Write down the exact model and configuration from each listing before comparing prices. If a seller’s description does not establish a detail that matters to you, confirm it with the seller rather than assuming the cheaper listing is equivalent.

Start with Apple’s current listed price for the matching configuration, then compare the offer with prices from other sellers. A crossed-out price or percentage-off claim is only a starting point: it does not establish that the deal is unusually good.

The FTC’s former-price guidance says a comparison is legitimate when the former price was a bona fide price at which the item was regularly offered to the public for a reasonably substantial period. This guidance appears in a 1964 FTC decision volume; it is not a newly issued rule. Read the FTC former-price guidance.
Where reliable price history is available, use it to see whether the current offer is lower than the product’s recent prices. Do not treat the advertised saving from a reference price as proof of a new low. No specific Apple model or current best price is established here, so assess the listing you are considering rather than relying on a generic “typical” discount.

3. Compare the real checkout price and offer conditions
Compare what you can actually pay, not just the headline price. Separate broadly available offers from prices that require eligibility, a trade-in, financing, or a gift-card redemption. Include shipping and mandatory fees, and account for financing costs or restrictions on redeeming a gift card.

Apple’s US Education Store offers education savings, but checkout requires eligibility verification. Check the current US Education Store and eligibility information before counting an education price as available to you. Do not assume a trade-in or financing promotion applies unless its current terms are stated for the offer you are evaluating.

The FTC recommends comparing sellers and reading the terms attached to advertised deals. It also advises shoppers to look for price matching or a credit if a price drops after purchase. See the FTC’s shopping advice.
4. Compare the seller and the protections
A lower price is not the whole comparison. Check the seller, return terms, and warranty coverage, and make sure you understand any conditions attached to the deal. Apple says its products are sold through Apple and authorized resellers; its seller information can help identify those options.

For each offer, note whether it is new or refurbished, what the return policy allows, and whether the seller’s warranty terms differ from the alternative. Do not assume that policies offered by Apple also apply to another retailer.

5. Check Apple’s limited US price-reduction policy
Apple’s US education sales terms say that, subject to stated exceptions, a buyer may request a refund or credit if Apple lowers the price of an Apple-branded product within 14 calendar days after receipt. The terms exclude limited-time price reductions and special sales events. This is a narrowly scoped Apple policy, not a general promise from other retailers. Read the current Apple education sales terms before relying on it.

A quick deal-check checklist
- Confirm the exact model, generation, configuration, condition, and included items.
- Compare Apple’s listed price with other sellers’ prices for that identical item.
- Check whether the reference price is credible and consult recent price history when available.
- Calculate the checkout total, including required costs and offer conditions.
- Review the seller’s return and warranty terms, plus any price-match or post-purchase adjustment policy.
- Verify eligibility and current terms directly before checkout; prices, stock, configurations, and promotions change.
