Use Cloudflare’s Browser Run browser binding and its quickAction("screenshot", …) method for a one-request capture from a Worker. Pass either a page URL or HTML, then choose options such as full-page capture, viewport, clipping, and output type. Use a Puppeteer browser session when the page must be interacted with before the screenshot; use the REST API when you need to call the service outside the Worker binding.
Choose the Cloudflare capture method
Cloudflare’s current product name is Browser Run. Some documentation, permissions, and API paths retain the former “Browser Rendering” name, so use Browser Run in prose but preserve literal identifiers such as browser-rendering in code and endpoint paths. Cloudflare announced the rename on April 15, 2026, saying, “We are renaming Browser Rendering to Browser Run.” (Cloudflare changelog.)
| Method | Best fit | Control and credentials |
|---|---|---|
| Worker binding Quick Action | A stateless screenshot of a URL or supplied HTML | Invoke a screenshot action through the configured binding; no API token is needed in this Worker code path. |
| Puppeteer browser session | Pages requiring scripted interaction, waits, or page-state changes before capture | Use Cloudflare’s @cloudflare/puppeteer package with the browser binding and browser/page APIs. |
| REST API | Calling screenshot capture from outside a Worker binding | Send a request to the account endpoint with a custom API token that has Browser Rendering edit permission. |
For a simple preview, dashboard image, report, QA capture, or visual-regression input, start with Quick Actions. Cloudflare’s screenshot guide documents both URL and HTML input and the available capture settings.
Set up a Worker browser binding
Configure a Browser Run browser binding in the Worker environment, then access it through the binding name in env. The example below assumes that name is BROWSER; use the exact name configured for your Worker. The capture code itself is a Worker handler:

export default {
async fetch(request, env) {
const screenshot = await env.BROWSER.quickAction("screenshot", {
url: "https://example.com",
});
return new Response(screenshot, {
headers: { "content-type": "image/png" },
});
},
};
The response body is the generated image, so return it as a response and label it with the matching content type. The minimal example uses the documented default PNG output. To return JPEG or WebP, set the screenshot type option and make the response content type agree with it.
Quick Actions are stateless: give the action one input, either url or html. For HTML you supply yourself, replace the URL property with an HTML string:
const screenshot = await env.BROWSER.quickAction("screenshot", {
html: "<!doctype html><html><body><h1>Worker capture</h1></body></html>",
});
Do not send both input types in one request. Use an HTML input when the document is the content to render; use a URL when the capture should reflect a page loaded from a site.
Control the screenshot output
The documented screenshot options let you tune the captured area and output without taking control of a browser session. The default viewport is 1920×1080. Set the values that matter to your output rather than assuming the default matches a preview card or test viewport.
Recommended Free Tools
viewport: specify the viewport dimensions used to render the page.fullPage: capture beyond the initial viewport to include the full page.clip: limit the capture to a defined region.type: choose the image output type.quality: set image quality where supported.omitBackground: omit the background where a transparent result is needed.
Cloudflare explicitly warns that quality does not work with the default PNG output. If you need to set quality, choose a supported alternative such as JPEG rather than leaving the default PNG type in place. Check the current option shape and accepted values in the Quick Action screenshot reference.

Example: full-page JPEG capture
const screenshot = await env.BROWSER.quickAction("screenshot", {
url: "https://example.com",
fullPage: true,
type: "jpeg",
quality: 80,
});
Choose full-page capture for a page archive or content review; choose a fixed viewport when matching a known display size or making consistent visual comparisons. Use clipping when only a specific portion of the rendered page is relevant. If you request quality, pair it with a non-PNG output type as documented.
When a browser session is a better fit
A Quick Action is the simplest route when the page can be captured as submitted. It is not a replacement for a scripted browser workflow. If you must navigate through a flow, wait for a particular selector, or change page state before capture, use a browser session with Cloudflare’s @cloudflare/puppeteer package and the configured binding. Cloudflare documents launching Puppeteer against the binding and then using the browser and page APIs (Puppeteer documentation).
The distinction is practical: Quick Actions perform a single screenshot task; a session gives your code a browser to control. Cloudflare also supports Playwright, CDP, and Stagehand as browser-session routes. The session route involves more setup and code, but is appropriate when the screenshot is the last step of a browser interaction rather than the only step.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsCall the screenshot REST API
For a direct API request rather than a Worker binding call, Cloudflare documents the endpoint as:
POST /accounts/{account_id}/browser-rendering/screenshot
The current guide also describes the /browser-rendering/screenshot endpoint. Keep the literal path as documented even though the product is now called Browser Run. Authenticate with a custom Cloudflare API token that has Browser Rendering edit permission. Do not treat the Worker-binding example and REST API as interchangeable credential flows: the binding action does not require putting an API token in Worker code, while a REST request does require the appropriately permissioned token.

Limits, caching, and data handling
Usage limits depend on plan and interface
- Cloudflare’s FAQ states that Workers Free accounts have a browser-use cap of 10 minutes per day. This is a daily browser-use limit for Free accounts, not a per-request allowance.
- Cloudflare announced on March 4, 2026 that the Browser Rendering REST API rate limit for Workers Paid plans increased from 3 to 10 requests per second. This is specifically the paid-plan REST API rate, not a limit to generalize to Free accounts or browser-session acquisition.
See Cloudflare’s limits documentation when planning capacity; do not size a Worker workload from the paid REST rate if it uses a different interface. The paid-plan change is recorded in the March 4, 2026 changelog.
Quick Action cache behavior
Quick Actions cache generated content for five seconds by default. The cache TTL can be configured up to 86,400 seconds or set to zero to disable caching. Customer-submitted HTML itself is not cached. A very short default cache can avoid redundant work for near-simultaneous identical captures, but set or disable the TTL to match whether a fresh result matters to your application.
Processing and retention are not identical for every feature
Cloudflare says Quick Actions other than crawl, along with Puppeteer, Playwright, and CDP, process content ephemerally and discard it after the response or session. The FAQ separately says crawl results are retained for 14 days and opt-in session recordings for 30 days. Those exceptions apply to different features; they should not be read as a blanket retention period for ordinary screenshot Quick Actions. Details are in the Browser Run FAQ.

Quality has no effect
Cause: the output is the default PNG, for which Cloudflare says the quality option does not work.
Fix: set a supported alternative output type, such as JPEG, alongside the quality value. Ensure the response content type matches the actual image type.

The result only shows the first screen
Cause: a regular viewport screenshot captures the visible viewport, not necessarily the entire document.

Fix: set fullPage: true when you need the whole page. If only one region is needed, use clip instead.
The capture uses the wrong dimensions
Cause: the Quick Action defaults to a 1920×1080 viewport, which may not match the target device or intended layout.
Fix: specify the viewport dimensions explicitly and keep them consistent between comparison runs.
The page needs a click, navigation, or a selector wait
Cause: a one-shot screenshot action does not provide the session-level interaction workflow the task needs.

A REST request is unauthorized
Cause: the request is using an absent or insufficiently permissioned API token.
Fix: use a custom token with Browser Rendering edit permission, and verify that the account ID and documented endpoint path are correct.
A workload exceeds expected capacity
Cause: daily browser-use limits and REST request rates vary by plan and interface; the paid REST rate does not describe every capture path.
