For screenshots on a schedule or when an outside event occurs, use Slack Workflow Builder to trigger and route the work—but a screenshot service or custom app must render the webpage. Slack’s documented workflow tools provide triggers and routing, not a native website screenshot action.
Choose the route that matches when you need the capture: a slash command for an immediate request, a scheduled workflow for recurring captures, or a webhook or custom app for an external event. The steps below explain what each route requires and where Slack’s role ends.
Choose the right way to capture a webpage in Slack
| Route | When it runs | What you need | Screenshot capability established by the cited source |
|---|---|---|---|
| ScreenshotsCloud slash command | When a person runs a command in Slack | Connect the Slack Marketplace app; check its current account conditions | The Marketplace listing describes viewport, mobile, and full-page options |
| Workflow Builder schedule | At a configured time or schedule | A workflow plus a service or app that captures the page and supplies output to Slack | Slack documents workflow triggers and steps; it does not document a built-in webpage capture step |
| Workflow Builder webhook | When an external system sends an HTTP POST | A paid Slack plan, a webhook workflow, and an external capture-and-delivery component | Slack documents webhook triggers and passing variables to later steps, not screenshot rendering |
| Custom Slack app or workflow step | When the custom implementation is invoked | Development, hosting, and any required app approval or credentials | Capture and delivery depend on the implementation you build |
Slack documents the Workflow Builder basics in its Workflow Builder guide and guide to creating a workflow in Slack. For custom work, Slack documents workflow development with the Deno Slack SDK and Bolt frameworks.
Take a screenshot on demand with a Slack command
The most direct documented route is the ScreenshotsCloud Marketplace integration. Its listing instructs users to connect the service with Slack and run /screenshot followed by the target URL. For example:

/screenshot https://example.com
The listing also gives examples using a bare domain and full URLs, including /screenshot slack.com. It describes options for viewport, mobile, and full-page screenshots. Those are features described for this integration; they should not be assumed to be options in Slack Workflow Builder or in other screenshot apps. See the ScreenshotsCloud Slack Marketplace listing for its current setup and command details.
- Find and connect the integration. Open the Marketplace listing and follow its connection instructions for your workspace. Workspace app-approval rules may affect whether you can add it yourself.
- Run the command where the result belongs. In a Slack conversation, enter
/screenshotand the webpage URL, such as/screenshot https://example.com. - Check the result and account access. Confirm that the capture appears in the expected conversation and that your account can use the integration. The listing says it works for trial and premium ScreenshotsCloud users, but check its current account conditions rather than assuming availability.
This is an interactive command, not an automatic schedule or website-event trigger. The cited listing does not establish that the command can be invoked from a Workflow Builder flow.
Schedule screenshots with Workflow Builder
Slack’s documented building blocks let a workflow start on a schedule and then run steps that route data. To make that workflow produce website screenshots, however, another component must capture the requested page and provide a result that the later Slack steps can use. Do not design around a native webpage screenshot action: Slack’s cited workflow documentation does not establish one.

- Create a workflow with a schedule trigger. In Workflow Builder, start a new workflow and choose the schedule trigger if it is available to your workspace.
- Decide how the page will be captured. Connect or build a screenshot service or app that accepts the page to capture. Specify which URL it should capture and how the result will be returned to the workflow or Slack.
- Add the routing steps. Configure the Slack steps needed to send the generated result, or a link to it, to the intended conversation. The exact steps depend on what the screenshot component can return and what your workspace permits.
- Test the full path. Run the workflow and verify that the capture is generated, is accessible to the intended audience, and arrives in the correct place. A workflow trigger working by itself does not prove that the screenshot or its delivery works.
Slack’s Workflow Builder guide covers the workflow interface and general setup. Whether the schedule trigger or particular steps are available can depend on your workspace’s plan and settings; check the options shown in your workspace.
Start a screenshot workflow from an external event
A webhook workflow is useful when an external system—not a person typing in Slack—should start the process. Slack’s documented pattern is for an external service to send an HTTP POST to the workflow’s URL. Custom variables from that request can be used in later workflow steps. The external system still needs to perform or arrange the screenshot capture.
- Create a workflow that starts outside Slack. Follow Slack’s webhook workflow instructions and define the values the request should provide, such as the URL or an identifier your capture component can resolve.
- Connect the capture component. Have the external service or custom app receive the relevant event, capture the page, and provide the output needed for Slack delivery. The webhook trigger routes workflow data; it does not itself render the website.
- Use workflow variables in later steps. Map the supplied values to the Slack actions in the workflow. Check that your capture component’s output is in a form those steps can actually use.
- Keep the workflow URL private. Slack warns that anyone with the request URL can start the workflow. Store it as a secret and rotate or replace it if it is exposed.
- Respect the documented limits. Slack Help Center describes webhook workflows as available on paid plans, accepting up to 20 variables and limited to one request per second. Workspace owners or admins can restrict access. These are Slack webhook-workflow limits, not limits on screenshot services.
Connector steps may require third-party authentication and workspace approval. Confirm the plan, permissions, and authentication requirements before relying on this pattern for a production process.

Build a custom Slack app when the workflow steps are not enough
If an available connector cannot perform the capture or pass the result in a usable form, a developer can implement a custom Slack app or workflow step. Slack’s workflow documentation describes the Deno Slack SDK and Bolt frameworks. Slack distinguishes Slack-hosted Deno SDK apps from self-hosted Bolt apps, so hosting and operational responsibilities differ by approach.
A custom implementation typically needs to receive an invocation or event, validate the input, request a screenshot from a rendering component, and deliver the image or a usable link to Slack. Decide how the app will authenticate to Slack and the capture service, handle failures, and protect any credentials. This is a development route, not a one-click Workflow Builder setting; implementation details depend on your chosen framework and delivery method.
For Slack’s interaction model and app behavior, see its Interactivity overview. That documentation helps with Slack-side interactions; it does not prescribe a particular website screenshot service or delivery format.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. A single GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF; your Slack workflow or app still needs to handle delivery to the conversation. Its clean-capture options accept cookie and consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, with the result identified in response headers. Its MCP server offers take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for AI-agent clients.
For example, this cURL request captures Stripe and saves the response as WebP. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for API details.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Keep your API key private. To use the result in Slack, connect the capture request to a workflow or app that can deliver the returned image or an accessible link; the API request alone does not post to Slack.
- Cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets are removed before the shot, unless you turn those steps off.
- Bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed; cache hits also cost nothing.
- An MCP server lets AI agents use screenshot tools.
- The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots. Every feature is on every plan.

Troubleshoot common setup problems
- The slash command is not available. Confirm the ScreenshotsCloud app is connected to the workspace and that workspace app permissions allow it. Check the Marketplace listing for current account conditions.
- The command runs but no capture appears. Confirm the URL is correctly formed, try a full
https://URL, and check the service’s response or account access. The Marketplace listing documents the command but does not specify every possible failure response. - A scheduled workflow runs but contains no screenshot. The schedule only starts the workflow. Verify that a capture service or app is configured to render the URL and pass its output to the subsequent Slack step.
- An external event does not start the workflow. Verify that the sender is issuing an HTTP POST to the correct private workflow URL and that the workflow is enabled. Check plan availability and admin restrictions.
- The request is rejected or throttled. Check the webhook workflow’s documented one-request-per-second limit and ensure the request does not exceed 20 variables. Queue or pace requests if your source can send faster.
- A connector step cannot authenticate. Complete the third-party authentication and obtain any required workspace approval. A connector can be blocked by admin policy even when the workflow itself exists.
- The workflow starts but cannot post the image. Confirm that the capture component returns a form the selected Slack step or custom app can deliver. Slack’s workflow documentation does not establish that every step can accept image bytes or post arbitrary capture output.
FAQ
Can Slack take a website screenshot by itself?
Slack’s cited workflow documentation describes triggers and routing, not a built-in webpage rendering step. Use a screenshot integration or add a capture component to the workflow.
Can I trigger screenshots from a website change?
Yes, if the system that detects the change sends an HTTP POST to a Slack webhook workflow or invokes your custom app. The detector and capture component must be configured outside Slack; the cited Slack material does not provide a website-change detector.
Can I make a full-page or mobile capture?
The ScreenshotsCloud Marketplace listing describes full-page, viewport, and mobile options for its integration. Check the connected service’s current controls for details.
