To take website screenshots automatically, build a scenario that starts with a schedule or event, sends the target URL to a screenshot service (such as GetScreenshot, HTML to Image API, or another provider through Make’s HTTP app), downloads the returned image, and routes that file to storage, email, Slack, or another destination.

What the Make scenario does
A reliable automation has five stages:
- Trigger: a schedule (for example, every hour) or an event from another Make module.
- Capture request: pass the page URL and options such as full-page mode or an element selector to a screenshot provider.
- File retrieval: receive the image directly, or download it with Make’s HTTP > Download a file module when the provider returns a URL.
- Optional checks: confirm that the response is an image, apply naming rules, and handle provider errors.
- Delivery: save the file to cloud storage, attach it to email, post it in Slack or another team chat, or send it to a downstream app.
Keep the capture and delivery steps separate. If Slack is temporarily unavailable, you can retry delivery without taking another screenshot and paying for a second capture.
Choose a screenshot service
Make’s documented workflow uses a screenshot API or service; it is an orchestrator, not a browser screenshot engine. Choose based on capture scope, output format, authentication, scheduling and retry requirements, quota, price, and where the resulting file must go.

Vendor module names, verification labels, limits and prices can change, so confirm the current provider documentation while configuring a production scenario.
Build the scenario with a native Make app
1. Add a schedule or event trigger
- Create a new scenario in Make and add the Scheduler (or your event-producing module) as the first module.
- Choose an interval, daily time, weekdays, or the event trigger appropriate to your workflow.
- Set the scenario timezone deliberately. A daily 09:00 schedule runs in the scenario’s configured timezone, not necessarily your computer’s timezone.
- For a one-off test, use Run once before enabling the schedule.
2. Add GetScreenshot
- Add the verified GetScreenshot module and select its webpage screenshot action, or its element screenshot action when you need a CSS-selected region.
- Map a fixed URL or a URL field from the trigger. Use a complete URL beginning with
https://. - Set full-page capture when the entire document is required. For a component-only image, provide the element selector supported by the module.
- Configure the output format and any provider options exposed by the module. Keep the provider’s API key in Make’s connection or credential field rather than in a URL or text variable.
If you need email delivery, use the provider’s email variant where appropriate; otherwise return the image and let Make handle distribution so the same file can be sent to several destinations.
3. Save or distribute the image
Connect the screenshot output to the destination that matches the job:
- Cloud storage: map the binary file, choose a folder, and build a deterministic name such as
homepage-{{formatDate(now; "YYYY-MM-DD-HHmm")}}.png. - Email: map the image as an attachment, set a useful subject, and include the source URL and capture time in the message body.
- Slack or team chat: upload the binary file rather than pasting a temporary provider URL if the link may expire.
- Another Make app: pass the file object and metadata such as URL, status and timestamp separately.
When one capture must go to several places, add a router after the screenshot module. Each route can save, notify and archive independently.
Use Make HTTP for any screenshot API
Request an image
- Add HTTP > Make a request after the scheduler.
- Set the provider’s documented method (usually GET or POST) and endpoint.
- Choose the provider’s authentication method: Basic Auth, API key or OAuth 2.0. Store credentials in the HTTP connection where available.
- Map the target URL into the provider’s URL, query string or JSON body. Add options such as full-page mode, viewport, output format or selector exactly as the provider documents them.
- Enable file handling when the provider returns binary data. If the response is JSON containing an image URL, add HTTP > Download a file and map that URL into it.
Download a URL returned by the API
Some services respond quickly with a job or download URL rather than the image bytes. Feed that URL into HTTP > Download a file. Then map the downloaded file to storage, email or Slack. Preserve the provider’s content type and extension; do not name a PDF as a PNG or vice versa.
Pass a URL safely
Use Make’s mapped fields and URL-encoding controls instead of concatenating unescaped query strings. URLs containing &, spaces, fragments or signed parameters can otherwise be truncated. Never log API keys in a text aggregator or send them to a notification module.

Capture quality and timing controls
Dynamic pages need more than a URL. If your selected provider supports these controls, use them deliberately:
- Wait for a selector: capture only after a chart, product grid or other required element exists.
- Delay: allow animations or client-side data to settle when no reliable selector is available.
- Network idle: useful for pages that finish rendering after several requests, but avoid it on pages with continuous analytics or streaming traffic.
- Full-page and lazy images: ensure content below the fold is loaded before capture.
- Viewport, device and scale: choose the viewport that matches the audience; retina scale increases detail and file size.
- Element capture: use a stable CSS selector rather than a generated class name.
- Custom CSS or JavaScript: hide cookie notices or expand a section only when the provider and site policy permit it.
For authenticated pages, configure cookies, custom headers, an Authorization header, user agent, timezone or geolocation in the provider. Do not place session cookies in scenario logs or shared data stores.

Scheduling, retries and idempotent files
Prevent duplicate captures
Scheduled scenarios can overlap when a previous run is slow. Set a scenario schedule and concurrency policy that prevents overlapping runs, or add a lock in your storage system. Include the scheduled timestamp in the filename so a retry can overwrite the same logical object rather than creating confusing duplicates.
Retry only transient failures
- Retry timeouts, temporary DNS errors, HTTP 429 responses and 5xx responses with increasing delays.
- Do not blindly retry bot checks, CAPTCHAs, authentication failures or a consistently invalid URL.
- After the retry limit, send an alert containing the URL, provider response code and scenario run ID.
Control volume and cost
The reviewed Make and provider pages do not publish a comparable numeric benchmark for latency, quota or cost. Check the current plan terms before scheduling high-frequency jobs. Filter unchanged pages, use provider caching where available, and avoid recapturing the same URL in multiple routes.

Troubleshooting common failures
Make returns an authentication error
Recheck the provider connection, key scope and endpoint. For HTTP requests, confirm that the key is in the exact header or query parameter name documented by the provider. Remove quotation marks accidentally included in mapped values.
The result is a JSON error instead of an image
The provider rejected the request or returned an asynchronous job. Inspect the HTTP status and response body, then correct the URL, required parameters or authentication. If a job ID is returned, poll the documented status endpoint before downloading the file.
The screenshot is blank or incomplete
Increase the wait or use a selector/network-idle condition. Confirm that the page does not require cookies, an Authorization header, a particular user agent, geolocation or JavaScript. For long pages, enable full-page capture and lazy-image loading.

Only the first screen appears
Full-page capture is a provider option, not a Make setting. Enable it in the native module or HTTP request. If the page uses virtual scrolling, scroll or reveal the content with the provider’s supported script before capture.

Verify that you mapped the binary output, not an error-message field or temporary HTML page. Check the response content type and preserve the correct extension. Add a filter that rejects non-image and non-PDF content before storage.
Runs exceed the schedule interval
Reduce capture frequency, remove unnecessary waits, enable provider caching with an appropriate TTL, or use asynchronous jobs and webhooks. Prevent concurrent runs so a slow page does not create a backlog.
