To save an entire search-results page as one image, use Firefox’s full-page screenshot control in Developer Tools or run :screenshot results.png --fullpage in the Web Console. The toolbar is the simpler option; the console gives you more control over the filename and capture settings. The steps below are for Firefox—current instructions for Chrome, Edge, and Safari are not established here.
Prepare the search-results page for documentation
- Open the search-results page and display the results you want to record.
- Separately note the exact query, search engine, page URL, date and time, and any relevant region or account context. These details help explain what the image shows; they are not embedded automatically as documentation metadata.
- Decide whether the straightforward toolbar capture is enough or whether you need to specify a filename or adjust capture options.
Method 1: Use Firefox’s full-page screenshot control
Firefox’s Developer Tools can capture an entire page or a single element. To use the full-page control, enable it first in Developer Tools settings. Mozilla documents this workflow in its Firefox DevTools screenshot instructions.
- Open Developer Tools and open its Settings.
- Under “Available Toolbox Buttons,” enable “Take a screenshot of the entire page.”
- Close Settings. The screenshot control now appears in the Developer Tools toolbar.
- On the search-results page, select the screenshot control to save the full page. Firefox saves the image to Downloads.
- Open the saved file and check that the result content you intended to document is visible.
Use this method when you want a graphical workflow and do not need to specify console options. For details on saving or copying captures and the date-and-time information in downloaded screenshot filenames, see Mozilla Support’s Firefox screenshot guide.

:screenshot results.png --fullpage
Press Enter to run the command. This asks Firefox to capture the entire page and save it as results.png. Mozilla documents the command and its options in Taking screenshots.
The console method is useful when you want to name the output yourself or need to adjust options such as delay, device pixel ratio, or selector. Firefox’s screenshot documentation describes these options; choose and record any settings that could affect how the page appears. The DevTools tips also distinguish whole-page, viewport, node, and console captures.

Keep the screenshot interpretable
A screenshot records a rendered page at a particular moment. Keep the original image, and add a short caption or accompanying note with the query and capture context. If you rename the downloaded file, preserve or add useful date-and-time context rather than relying on the filename alone. Before sharing or filing it, inspect the image to verify it contains the results you meant to document.

Troubleshooting
- The toolbar control is missing: Open Developer Tools Settings and enable “Take a screenshot of the entire page” under “Available Toolbox Buttons.”
- The command is not producing the filename you expected: Confirm the command includes the intended name, for example
:screenshot results.png --fullpage, and check the saved output. - The image does not show the content you wanted: Reopen the search-results page, make the intended results visible, capture again, and inspect the resulting image before using it.
- You need a different capture scope or settings: Use the console options documented by Mozilla for delay, device pixel ratio, or selector; the DevTools tips page explains the distinction between whole-page, viewport, and node captures.
Or skip the browser setup
