Use Playwright’s page screenshot API with fullPage: true to save the whole scrollable listing as one image:
await page.screenshot({ path: 'listing.png', fullPage: true });This captures the page’s full scrollable extent. It does not guarantee that every product has been rendered or that lazy-loaded content has finished loading, so check the resulting image against the listing you intended to capture.
Capture the full listing page
Once your Playwright script has navigated to the listing and the page is ready for capture, call page.screenshot() with fullPage: true. The example below assumes page is an already-created Playwright Page:

Choose the right capture scope
Whole page
Use page.screenshot() with fullPage: true when the output should include the entire scrollable document, including content outside the current viewport.
Listing region or product card
If you only need the listing container or one product card, take a locator screenshot instead. Replace the illustrative selector with a stable locator that matches the actual page:
await page.locator('[data-testid="product-list"]').screenshot({ path: 'products.png' });Playwright recommends locators based on user-facing properties such as role, text, label, placeholder, alt text, or title, as well as test IDs. Avoid long CSS or XPath chains that depend on a particular DOM structure; they can break when the page markup changes. See Playwright locators.

Check long and dynamic listings before capture
fullPage: true sets the screenshot extent; it is not a universal instruction to load every product. A listing may render items on demand as you scroll, use lazy-loaded images, or virtualize rows so that only nearby products exist in the DOM. The right preparation depends on that site’s implementation.
- Inspect the target page. Determine whether the products and images appear only after scrolling, waiting, or interacting with the listing.
- Trigger the site’s required loading behavior. If the page needs scrolling or another action to reveal items, perform it before capture using behavior appropriate to that page.
- Capture the screenshot. Use the full-page call for the document, or a locator screenshot if the desired output is one element.
- Validate the image. Check that the expected products, images, and page sections appear. Do not infer completeness from a successful screenshot call alone.
Playwright’s screenshot documentation does not prescribe one universal procedure for lazy-loaded or virtualized listings. Treat loading as a site-specific step and verify the actual output.
Save a file or process the screenshot in memory
With path, Playwright writes the image to a file. The screenshot API can also return image bytes as a buffer, which is useful when another step in your script will process or store the result:

PNG, JPEG, and WebP are documented formats; choose one that suits the destination. CSS-pixel and device-pixel scaling produce different image dimensions, so account for that when comparing or displaying captures.

Playwright’s command-line screenshot command has its own syntax. For a full-page capture, use --full-page:
npx playwright screenshot --full-page https://example.com/products listing.pngThe CLI also documents filename, image-type, and high-resolution options. Check the screenshot guide for the supported flags. This command is separate from the Node.js Page API; do not pass the API’s fullPage option as a CLI flag.

For repeatable visual checks, use Playwright Test
A saved full-page image is suitable for a one-off capture. For a visual regression assertion, Playwright Test provides toHaveScreenshot(). Its screenshot assertion waits for consecutive screenshots to match before comparing the result with the stored expectation. See Playwright visual comparisons.
Keep the rendering environment consistent when maintaining baselines. Browser version, operating system, settings, hardware, and other environmental factors can affect rendered screenshots, so a difference may come from the environment rather than a change to the listing.

Does `fullPage: true` capture a listing element only?
No. It captures the full scrollable page. Use a locator screenshot to capture a specific listing region or product card.
Can I use a screenshot buffer instead of writing a file?
Yes. Call `page.screenshot({ fullPage: true })` without a `path`; the API returns the screenshot as a buffer.
Why are some products missing from a full-page image?
The page may load products on demand or render only items near the viewport. Trigger the page’s required loading behavior and inspect the captured image.
