In Deno, Playwright and Puppeteer can be imported with the npm: specifier. Navigate to the page, wait for navigation or an application-specific readiness signal, then save the screenshot or keep its bytes in memory. A minimal Playwright capture is:

await browser.close();fullPage changes the capture geometry from the viewport to the complete scrollable document. It does not, by itself, make a client-rendered app finish loading or force lazy content to appear, so readiness and Deno permissions matter just as much as the screenshot option.
What full-page means in Deno
A normal screenshot records only the currently visible viewport. A full-page screenshot expands the capture to the page’s scrollable height, including content below the fold. Both Playwright and Puppeteer expose this directly:

page.screenshot({ fullPage: true }); Puppeteer’sfullPagedefault isfalse.
The resulting image can be written to disk or returned as bytes for further processing. Extremely long documents can produce very tall images; for reports or printing, PDF may be a better output.

Prerequisites and Deno permissions
Deno denies filesystem, network, environment, and subprocess access unless you grant them. A capture that visits example.com and writes to a local directory can start with:
deno run --allow-net=example.com --allow-write=./screenshots screenshot.tsUse the narrowest permissions that work. Browser packages may need additional permissions depending on their version and how the browser is installed, including subprocess access. Do not use -A (the alias for --allow-all) in production unless you trust the complete script and its dependencies; that flag disables Deno’s permission sandbox.
Prepare the output directory
Create the directory before running the script, or create it in code with Deno.mkdir. If you create it in code, grant the directory rather than the entire filesystem:

This example waits for network activity to settle, sets a deterministic viewport, captures the whole page, and closes the browser even when the capture fails.

Wait for application content, not just navigation
networkidle is useful for pages whose requests eventually settle, but single-page applications, analytics, long polls, and lazy components can keep changing after navigation. Prefer a concrete readiness signal when you know one:

Puppeteer: complete Deno example
Puppeteer uses the same full-page option. Its documented networkidle2 navigation condition waits until there are no more than two active network connections for the required period.

}Run it with the same narrowly scoped network and write permissions, adding whatever subprocess permission your chosen Puppeteer/browser setup requires.
Puppeteer output options
Puppeteer supports path, image type, quality, clipping, background, and encoding controls. PNG is lossless. JPEG and WebP can reduce storage where some compression is acceptable. Without a path, the method returns image data (a Uint8Array in current APIs), which you can send to another service or write with Deno.writeFile.
Making below-the-fold content appear
Full-page geometry is not the same as full application state. Images or sections loaded by an IntersectionObserver may not exist until they are scrolled into view. A practical approach is to scroll through the document before the final capture:

This is site-specific implementation guidance: no browser flag can infer that a particular lazy component is ready.
Sticky headers and repeated elements
Fixed or sticky headers can appear repeatedly or cover content in a long capture. If that is a problem, hide the element with page CSS before the screenshot, or temporarily change its position. Keep this alteration in the capture script so the live site is never modified:

Playwright or Puppeteer in Deno?
Both libraries provide the decisive call, so choose based on runtime compatibility, browser installation, and the controls your deployment needs.

Neither library automatically solves consent dialogs, bot checks, or pages that never become idle. Those behaviors must be handled in your script or by a capture service.
Reliability, performance, and cost considerations
Keep captures deterministic
- Set a fixed viewport, device scale, locale, timezone, and user agent when visual diffs matter.
- Use PNG for pixel-accurate documentation; use JPEG or WebP when transfer and storage size matter more.
- Wait for a known selector or application-ready state instead of relying only on elapsed time.
- Close each browser and page. Reusing one browser for a controlled batch is usually less expensive than launching a process for every URL, but isolate pages when cookies or authentication must not leak.
Control long pages
A full-page image’s dimensions grow with document height. Very long pages consume more memory and can hit image-tool limits. Consider capturing a specific element, splitting a document into sections, or generating a PDF when the reader needs pagination.
Protect credentials
Do not place passwords or API keys in a URL, source repository, or screenshot. Use Deno’s environment permission only when needed and keep secrets out of page content and logs.

Troubleshooting full-page captures
The script cannot import the package
Use the npm: prefix exactly, for example import { chromium } from "npm:playwright";. Confirm that the Deno version supports npm packages and that the package’s browser setup is available in the deployment image.
Permission denied
Grant only the missing capability: --allow-net=host for navigation, --allow-write=./screenshots for files, and any subprocess permission required by the browser launcher. A permission error is not fixed by changing fullPage.
The image contains only the first screen
Check that the screenshot call actually includes fullPage: true and that you are not passing a restrictive clip. Inspect the saved file’s dimensions; a viewport-sized image usually indicates the option was omitted or overwritten.
Images or cards are missing below the fold
Scroll to trigger intersection-based loading, then wait for a selector or image completion. Network-idle waits describe network activity, not whether a specific component has finished rendering.
The capture times out
Raise the navigation timeout only when the target is expected to be slow, and diagnose the page separately. Check DNS, TLS, redirects, authentication, and bot protection. For pages with persistent connections, replace a network-idle condition with a concrete readiness selector.

The page is blank or shows a bot check
Browser automation may be blocked or may have reached an interstitial instead of the intended page. Do not treat a technically successful HTTP navigation as a valid screenshot; inspect the page title, URL, and visible text before saving.

Hide or restyle the offending fixed element with a temporary stylesheet, or capture the relevant content element rather than the entire document.

Does fullPage: true include content hidden behind a click?
No. It expands the document capture area; content that requires a click, scroll trigger, authentication, or another state must be made visible in your script first.
