To screenshot a page after logging in with Browserless, first save the completed login state as an authenticated profile, then send a POST request to Browserless’s /screenshot endpoint with the page URL and that profile’s name. Browserless restores the profile before the page renders, so you can reuse the session without scripting the login for every capture. If login requires interaction, complete it in a live browser session and save the profile only after the final redirect and signed-in page have loaded.
Choose the right way to authenticate
Browserless offers several paths, and the right one depends on how the site authenticates you. A saved profile is the practical choice for repeat screenshots behind a normal web-app login. Use a live browser session when you must interact with the page before taking the screenshot.

Save a login as an authenticated profile
- Create a profile. Browserless documents creating one in the dashboard or by opening a profile session through its API. Profiles are scoped to the API token used to access them.
- Open a live browser session and log in. Complete the site’s normal login flow. Wait for redirects and confirm that the signed-in page is fully loaded.
- Save the profile after authentication finishes. Browserless’s profile example calls
Browserless.saveProfileafter login. The saved state can include cookies, localStorage, and IndexedDB. It does not include sessionStorage, which is tab-specific and may contain short-lived flow data. - Reuse the profile for screenshots. Pass the profile name and API token as query parameters to the screenshot endpoint, and put the target URL in the JSON body.
If you save too early—before the login redirect completes or the site sets its authentication state—the profile may not contain a usable signed-in session. See Browserless’s authenticated-profile documentation and profile example for the profile-session workflow.
Take a screenshot with the saved profile
This cURL request sends the target URL in the request body and the profile name with the API token in the endpoint URL. Replace the example values with your own; do not put a real token in code that you share or commit.

For dynamic pages that need clicking, scrolling, or an explicit wait before capture, use a browser connection rather than expecting a single REST screenshot request to perform those interactions. Troubleshoot a bad or logged-out capture

- Check that the profile was saved after the final login redirect and that the signed-in page had loaded. A profile captured too early may lack the authentication state.
- Confirm you are passing the right profile name and the API token that can access that profile.
- If the site depends on sessionStorage or other tab-specific short-lived flow data, a saved profile may not preserve that part of the flow.
The screenshot is blank or incomplete
- Check that the destination URL is correct and the page has had time to load.
- For a dynamic page, use a connected browser session to interact or wait before capture. Consider a selector or image-loading option where appropriate.
- Increase the timeout if the page needs longer than the documented 30-second default, using the syntax supported by the endpoint you call.
The screenshot shows a CAPTCHA or a different page
The site may be blocking automation, or the saved state may not be valid. Browserless documents an Unblock API that attempts to handle bot detection and can return a screenshot, cookies, content, or a browser endpoint. It does not promise success against every protected site. Review the Unblock API documentation and follow the site’s access rules.
HTTP credentials do not sign in to the web app
BrowserQL’s authenticate mutation is for HTTP authentication challenges. For a form-based or otherwise interactive site login, use a live browser to complete the flow and save an authenticated profile instead.

Security and reliability considerations
- Treat API tokens, saved profiles, and captured screenshots as sensitive: they may provide access to private account data.
- Use an origin-scoped BrowserQL authentication challenge when that method applies, rather than sending credentials broadly.
- Do not assume a saved profile lasts indefinitely or survives every site change. If authentication expires or the site changes its login flow, capture and save a fresh signed-in state.
- Validate a representative capture before automating a large batch. A successful HTTP response alone does not establish that the screenshot contains the intended authenticated page.
