Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteUse Browshot’s Python client, BrowshotClient, to request a website capture. For a quick blocking request, call simple() and save the returned PNG bytes in binary mode. For explicit status handling, create a capture, poll until it finishes or fails, then retrieve the image. Browshot is a hosted screenshot service; its Python library is a client for the service, not a local browser package.
Install the Browshot client and protect your API key
Follow the current installation instructions on Browshot’s Python API library page. You will need a Browshot API key. Treat it as a secret: supply it through an environment variable or a secrets manager rather than committing it to source control.
The examples below follow the methods shown in Browshot’s documentation. The library page contains older-style sample syntax in places; check its current package and Python-version instructions before using a sample in production. These examples have not been independently executed here.
Take a screenshot with the simple blocking method
For a one-shot PNG capture, initialize BrowshotClient with your key and call simple(). The simple method waits for the screenshot to complete or fail. Browshot’s example checks the response code before writing the image bytes.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
import os
from browshot import BrowshotClient
client = BrowshotClient(os.environ["BROWSHOT_API_KEY"])
data = client.simple("https://example.com", {})
if data.get("code") == 200 and data.get("png"):
with open("screenshot.png", "wb") as image_file:
image_file.write(data["png"])
else:
raise RuntimeError(f"Browshot screenshot failed: {data}")
Set the environment variable before running the script, using the API key from your Browshot account. The simple_file helper documented by Browshot is another option when you want the client to write to a named file; consult the library page for its current signature and success response.
Use the full API when you need status control
The full workflow separates capture creation, status checks, and image retrieval. It is useful when you want to handle a pending request explicitly or pass documented capture options. Browshot’s documented sequence uses screenshot_create(), repeated screenshot_info() calls, and then screenshot_thumbnail().

The API documentation describes the corresponding create, info, and thumbnail endpoints. Confirm the installed client’s current return shapes before relying on particular fields; the key states in Browshot’s examples are in_process, finished, and error.
Choose capture size and rendering options
Browshot documents these options for its screenshot API. Availability and numerical bounds can differ by endpoint, so verify the limits for the endpoint and client version you use.

| Option | What it does | Practical use |
|---|---|---|
size |
screen captures the viewport; page captures the full page. |
Use screen for a view as seen at one scroll position and page when content below the fold matters. |
screen_width, screen_height |
Set desktop viewport dimensions. | Specify them when the page’s responsive layout must match a target viewport. |
delay |
Waits after page load so page scripts can run. | Use a delay for content that appears shortly after initial load; check the endpoint docs for allowed bounds. |
cache |
Reuses a recent screenshot for the same URL and instance. The documented default is 24 hours; cache=0 requests a fresh screenshot. |
Keep caching for repeated captures where reuse is acceptable; set cache=0 when you need a new capture. |
| CSS selector, headers, scripts, rendered HTML | Other documented options target page elements, customize request headers, run scripts, or save rendered HTML. | Use these only when a basic URL capture does not meet the page or diagnostic requirement; check exact option names and support in the endpoint documentation. |
Pass supported options in the options argument to the relevant client method. Consult Browshot API Documentation for the current endpoint’s parameter names and limits; mirrored documentation pages may not agree on every bound.
Understand responses before saving a file
Do not treat every response body as an image. For the simple endpoint, Browshot documents HTTP 200 as a successful PNG response, HTTP 400 as an invalid request, HTTP 404 as a capture failure with an explanatory X-Error header, and HTTP 302 as an in-progress request that should be followed. The full API exposes status values such as in_process, finished, and error. Check success before writing bytes to a file named with an image extension.

Handle pages that need interaction first
If the page requires several browser actions before it can be captured, Browshot’s automation guide documents a steps argument for sequences such as typing, clicking, running JavaScript, sleeping, navigating, and taking a screenshot. CSS selectors can target page elements. See Log in to a website to take screenshots for the documented interaction workflow. This is an advanced path; a normal public page generally needs only a URL capture.
Troubleshoot common capture problems
- Invalid request (HTTP 400): Check the URL and parameter names, and confirm that options are supported by the exact endpoint you are calling.
- Capture failed (HTTP 404): Read the
X-Errorresponse header for Browshot’s explanation instead of saving the response body as a PNG. - Request is still running: The simple method is documented as blocking. With the full API, continue checking
screenshot_info()while the status is in progress; retrieve the image only after the status isfinished. - The saved file is not a valid image: Confirm that the request succeeded and that the client returned PNG bytes. An error response or unfinished capture is not a screenshot.
- Insufficient credits or balance: Browshot warns that running its examples may consume credits, and its API documentation says private and shared instances require a positive balance. Check your account’s balance and instance requirements before making requests; account-specific price and plan terms are not established here.
- Page content is missing: Consider whether the page needs a longer post-load delay, a full-page
size, custom headers, or an interaction sequence. Check the relevant option limits in the endpoint documentation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Browshot capture screenshots on my computer?
No. Browshot is a hosted screenshot service; the Python package sends requests to it and returns capture results.
Which Browshot workflow should I use for a single PNG?
Use the blocking simple() method when you do not need to manage capture status separately.
How do I request a fresh Browshot capture instead of a cached one?
The API documentation describes cache=0 as a request for a fresh screenshot.
