Snipping Tool is included with Windows and is the simplest choice for a visible area, a browser window, or the whole display.

- Open the webpage and position it as needed.
- Press Windows logo key + Shift + S. The screen dims and the Snipping Tool overlay appears.
- Choose a mode: Freeform to draw an irregular outline, Rectangle to drag a box, Window to select the browser window, or Full screen to capture every display.
- Drag or select the area. The image is copied to the clipboard and a notification opens the editor.
- Use the editor to annotate or crop, then save or share the file.
Pressing Print Screen takes a static full-screen image and copies it to the clipboard. Snipping Tool also supports a one- to five-second delay, useful for menus or hover states that disappear when you press a key. Its local OCR and redaction tools can identify text and quickly obscure email addresses or phone numbers; processing is performed on the device.
When Snipping Tool is not enough
Snipping Tool captures the screen, not an arbitrarily long webpage. If the page extends below the viewport, use Edge’s full-page command or Firefox’s full-page Developer Tools capture instead of stitching many separate images.
How to capture an entire webpage in Microsoft Edge
Edge’s Screenshot feature can capture a whole webpage, including parts you would otherwise have to scroll to see, or only a selected region.
- Open the page in Edge.
- Open Screenshot from the page’s right-click menu or the Settings menu, or press Ctrl+Shift+S.
- Choose Capture full page for the complete document, or Capture area and drag around a region.
- Use the overlay to mark up, copy, or save the result.
The exact menu location and availability can vary by device type, market, and Edge version. If the shortcut does not open Screenshot, use the right-click or Settings entry and check that Edge is current.

Edge renders the page as it scrolls through the document. Images that load only after scrolling, sticky headers, animations, and consent dialogs may therefore appear differently from a normal screen snip. Inspect the saved image before publishing it.
How to screenshot a website in Firefox
Quick visible-area capture
- Open the webpage.
- Right-click an empty part of the page and choose Take Screenshot, or press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows/Linux (Command+Shift+S on Mac).
- Choose the visible page, a selected area, or the full-page option shown by Firefox, then save or copy the result.
Full page or one element with Developer Tools
- Open Firefox Developer Tools.
- Enable the Developer Tools button labeled Take a screenshot of the entire page if it is not already visible.
- Use the full-page command for the complete document, or select an element and choose Screenshot Node for that element only.
- For command-line-style control, use
:screenshot --fullpagein the Developer Tools command interface.
Firefox’s advanced capture supports a delay, device-pixel-ratio, a filename, clipboard output, and a CSS selector. These controls are useful when a page needs time to render or when you need a consistent element-only image.

How to take a website screenshot on a Mac
macOS saves the standard captures as PNG files on the desktop unless you change the screenshot destination.
- Command+Shift+3: capture the entire visible screen.
- Command+Shift+4: drag to capture a selected section.
- Command+Shift+4, then Space: capture a specific window; move the camera cursor over the browser window and click.
These shortcuts do not automatically capture a webpage below the display. For a long page, use Edge’s Capture full page or Firefox’s full-page Developer Tools feature while viewing the page in that browser.

How to screenshot a website on iPhone or iPad
- Open the webpage.
- Press Sleep/Wake + Volume Up at the same time.
- On a device with a physical Home button, press Home + Sleep/Wake.
- Tap the thumbnail to crop or annotate, then save. The capture is stored in Photos.
To capture the whole webpage rather than the visible screen, open the screenshot preview and look for Full Page. Whether that option appears and how it exports depends on the browser and iOS or iPadOS version. If it is missing, use the browser’s own full-page command or capture the page in a desktop browser.
How to screenshot a website on Android
- Open the webpage.
- Press Sleep/Wake + Volume Down together.
- On models with a physical Home button, try Home + power.
- Use the preview to crop, annotate, or share.
Manufacturers add different controls. Look in the preview for Scrolling screenshot, Capture more, or similar wording to extend the image below the viewport. Button behavior and long-page support vary by manufacturer and Android version. On stock Android 9, the power menu may also expose a Screenshot command.
How to screenshot a website on Linux
Ubuntu includes a Take Screenshot utility, and GNOME and KDE provide their own capture tools. Labels and default destinations differ by desktop environment.

Use the desktop utility when you need a timer, area selection, annotation, or a different output destination. For a long webpage, use the full-page feature in Edge or Firefox rather than relying on a visible-screen shortcut.
Visible screenshot versus full-page screenshot
A visible screenshot is a bitmap of the current viewport. It is ideal for a bug report, a small excerpt, or an annotated instruction. A full-page screenshot creates one image from the document’s scrollable content. It is better for an invoice, landing page, article, or design review that must show everything in one file.
Check dynamic content before you save
- Scroll-triggered or lazy-loaded images may not appear unless the capture tool actually visits that part of the page.
- Sticky navigation bars can be repeated at every section or overlap content.
- Cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets can cover the subject.
- Animations, videos, and personalized sections may render at a different moment than your visible view.
- Responsive layouts can change when the capture tool uses a different viewport width or device-pixel ratio.
After saving, zoom through the image from top to bottom. Confirm that text is readable, images are present, the page did not stop at a timeout, and no private data is visible.
Privacy and quality checklist before sharing
- Crop browser tabs, bookmarks, notifications, and unrelated windows.
- Remove account names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, tokens, and internal URLs.
- Check both the top and bottom of a full-page image for accidental content.
- Use local redaction or an image editor rather than uploading confidential screenshots to an unknown service.
- Keep the original file if the screenshot is evidence for a support ticket or incident.
- For accessibility or documentation, verify that text remains legible at the final display size.
Troubleshooting common screenshot problems
The shortcut does nothing
Another application may own the key combination, the browser may be outdated, or a laptop may require the Fn key. Open the relevant menu manually: Snipping Tool from Windows, Screenshot from Edge’s right-click or Settings menu, or Take Screenshot from Firefox’s context menu.
The capture stops at the visible area
You used a screen shortcut rather than a full-page command. In Edge select Capture full page; in Firefox use the Developer Tools full-page control or :screenshot --fullpage.

Images or sections are missing
Give the page time to finish loading, disable an obstructive extension, and try again. Content that loads only after scrolling may require a browser tool that scrolls through the document. Compare the result with the live page before relying on it.
A cookie banner or chat box covers the page
Dismiss it before capture when possible. If it returns on every load, use a clean-capture service that handles common consent platforms and overlays before taking the image.
The mobile full-page option is unavailable
Long-page export depends on the browser, manufacturer, and operating-system version. Update the browser, look for Full Page, Scrolling screenshot, or Capture more, or perform the capture on a desktop browser.
The file is too large or blurry
Reduce the capture width, choose a suitable image format, or capture the needed element instead of the entire document. A higher device-pixel ratio improves detail but increases file size.
