To capture Bengali text correctly, make the Bengali font available to the same browser runtime that Selenium controls, wait for both page content and fonts to load, then save the screenshot. A locale setting by itself does not install a font or guarantee correct Bengali shaping.
What you need for a reliable Bengali screenshot
- A browser controlled by Selenium, with a compatible driver if required by your setup. Selenium describes WebDriver as a way to drive a browser natively. Selenium WebDriver overview.
- A Bengali-script font available to that browser, either loaded by the website or installed in the machine or container where the browser runs.
- A stable viewport, a wait for page-specific content and fonts, and a final visual check using real Bengali text from the page.
This applies to Indian websites that display Bengali; the domain or the browser’s locale does not determine which font is available. The browser captures its rendered page, so a font installed on your workstation will not help if Chrome runs in a separate container without that font.
Make the Bengali font available to Chrome
When the website loads its own web font
Allow the site’s font requests to complete. Check browser or network restrictions if the font does not load, and wait for font loading before capturing. Noto’s documentation describes using Noto web fonts on websites and the role of script-specific fonts and fallback families: Noto Fonts documentation.
When Chrome runs in Linux or a container
Install or bundle the Bengali font in the same runtime as Chrome. The exact package name and installation command depend on the Linux distribution and container image, so use that image’s package documentation rather than assuming a universal command. If you install fonts while applications are running, Noto documentation notes that Linux applications may need to be restarted before they see the new fonts. Restart the browser process after changing fonts if it continues to use fallback glyphs.

Use a Bengali-specific CSS family when you control the page
Put the intended Bengali family first, then provide fallbacks. For example:
body {
font-family: "Noto Sans Bengali", sans-serif;
}
A browser falls back to later families when an earlier family lacks required characters. The font must still be installed or successfully loaded, and Bengali text depends on complex text-layout shaping; merely naming a font does not prove that every conjunct renders correctly. See Noto’s guidance on font fallback and script support.

Run Selenium and save a full-window PNG
This Python template uses Selenium’s Chrome driver, sets a fixed viewport, waits for the document load state and the browser’s font set, then saves a PNG. It is an implementation template, not a tested result; replace the example URL and add a site-specific readiness condition for content that appears after the page load event.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsfrom selenium import webdriver
from selenium.webdriver.support.ui import WebDriverWait
options = webdriver.ChromeOptions()
options.add_argument("--headless=new")
driver = webdriver.Chrome(options=options)
try:
driver.set_window_size(1440, 1200)
driver.get("https://example.in/")
WebDriverWait(driver, 20).until(
lambda d: d.execute_script("return document.readyState") == "complete"
)
driver.execute_async_script("""
const done = arguments[0];
document.fonts.ready.then(() => done(true), () => done(false));
""")
driver.save_screenshot("indian-page.png")
finally:
driver.quit()
Selenium’s Python API documents save_screenshot(filename) for saving the current window as a PNG: Selenium screenshot documentation. The document.fonts.ready wait is browser-side implementation guidance; verify it in the browser you run. A completed document load does not necessarily mean the application has finished rendering. For a page with delayed content, add a wait for a stable, relevant selector, such as the main article heading:

- Ultra-thin bezels: Maximize your viewing experience with thin bezels.
WebDriverWait(driver, 20).until(
lambda d: d.find_element("css selector", "main h1").is_displayed()
)
Use a selector that reflects the target page’s actual readiness, not just an element that appears in its initial shell. If content is authenticated or loaded by a later API call, wait for that content explicitly.
Keep locale, font, and shaping separate
Use a locale override only when the site’s content or behavior depends on locale—for example, when it chooses language-specific content or formatting. Selenium’s Python BiDi API provides a locale override using a BCP 47 locale string for selected browsing contexts: Selenium BiDi documentation. This changes locale-related browser behavior; it does not install Bengali fonts. Likewise, font availability alone does not establish that complex Bengali glyph combinations are shaped as intended. Inspect representative strings in the resulting image.

Capture one element instead of the whole window
If the screenshot should contain only a particular element, Selenium provides element screenshot APIs, including a Python example. The Selenium page notes a Chromium headless requirement; confirm support for the Selenium and browser versions in your own environment before relying on it: Selenium element screenshot documentation.

element = driver.find_element("css selector", "main")

An element screenshot is useful when browser chrome or unrelated page sections should be excluded. It does not eliminate the need to wait for the target element’s content and fonts.

Make captures reproducible
- Keep the viewport dimensions fixed; responsive layout changes can alter line breaks and which content is visible.
- Use the same browser mode, browser version, font files, and device scale across runs when comparing screenshots. Headless versus headed mode and viewport or device scale are reproducibility choices, not a universally superior setting.
- For Chrome, keep Chrome and ChromeDriver on the same major version. Check the version guidance in Selenium’s Chrome documentation.
- Save the screenshot after the page-specific readiness condition and font wait, then visually inspect actual Bengali text, especially conjuncts and text near line wraps.
Troubleshoot missing or incorrect Bengali text
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or change |
|---|---|---|
| Boxes or missing glyphs | The font is unavailable to Chrome, or a web-font request failed. | Check that the font exists in the browser’s runtime, not only on the host, and that the site’s font request succeeds. |
| Unexpected typeface or fallback | The Bengali family is absent, misspelled in the CSS stack, or not loaded. | Confirm the family name and availability, put the Bengali-specific family before generic fallbacks, and check the font request. |
| Letters appear but conjuncts look wrong | Font presence alone does not guarantee correct complex-script shaping. | Inspect representative Bengali words in the saved image and verify the browser/font combination against the target text. |
| Blank or incomplete screenshot | The capture ran before application content or fonts were ready. | Wait for a page-specific content selector and font loading; do not treat the page load event as proof that an application is ready. |
| Element screenshot fails | The API may not be supported in the current browser or execution mode. | Check Selenium’s documented Chromium headless requirement and verify support for the versions in use. |
| WebDriver session fails to start | Chrome and ChromeDriver may be incompatible, or options may not suit the environment. | Align Chrome and ChromeDriver major versions and review the Chrome options for the host or container. |

If you need a screenshot without maintaining Selenium, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request can return an image or PDF; for a direct PNG capture, use:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot"
-d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY
--data-urlencode url=https://example.in/
-d format=png
-o indian-page.png
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options and authentication. ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie and consent banners before capture and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server offers take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. The free plan includes 1,000 shots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.
