Use Puppeteer’s page.screenshot() to save the CAPTCHA page exactly as it appears in the browser. This documents a visible page state; it does not solve the CAPTCHA, prove that verification succeeded, establish that the site permits automation, or certify the page’s accessibility.
Capture the CAPTCHA page with Puppeteer
The example below navigates to a page, saves the rendered viewport as a PNG, and closes the browser. Replace the URL with the exact page you are authorized to access.

Choose the screenshot area
A normal screenshot captures the visible viewport. Choose another capture mode when the challenge or its instructions do not fit clearly in that view.

These options are documented in the Puppeteer screenshot guide. A clipped capture uses page coordinates; an element capture is often more robust when the page layout shifts, but it still depends on a correct selector and an element that remains attached.
Wait for the state you intend to document
Screenshot timing affects what the image shows. A network-idle wait can help when the page finishes loading promptly, but CAPTCHA scripts or other ongoing requests may prevent a network-idle condition. If the navigation wait times out, do not assume the page is blank: inspect the browser state and capture only if the intended content has rendered and doing so is appropriate.

When a known element indicates the page is ready, wait for it before capturing. Puppeteer recommends locators for selecting and interacting with page elements; see Page interactions. Avoid assuming a CAPTCHA has appeared or been accepted based only on elapsed time. Viewport size, page state, load timing, and element attachment can all change the resulting image.

What the image can and cannot establish
A screenshot is evidence of what appeared in one browser state. It can document that a CAPTCHA or related prompt was visible at capture time. By itself, it cannot establish:

- That the CAPTCHA was solved or that the site accepted verification.
- That the page is accessible to people with disabilities.
- That automated access is allowed by the particular site’s terms.
- That the page belongs to an official government organization unless the exact URL and owner are verified.
The Guidelines for Indian Government Websites and apps (GIGW) say government websites should use a gov.in or nic.in domain and describe the URL as a strong indicator of official status. Treat that as an authenticity check, not proof about an unspecified screenshot; verify the exact address and owning organization. See GIGW Guidelines.
What Indian government accessibility guidance says about CAPTCHA
GIGW’s accessibility guidance adopts WCAG 2.1 success criteria and includes a CAPTCHA checkpoint. It states: “If the purpose of non-text content is to confirm that content is being accessed by a person rather than a computer, then text alternatives that identify and describe the purpose of the non-text content are provided and alternative forms of CAPTCHA using output modes for different types of sensory perception are provided to accommodate different disabilities.” Read the GIGW accessibility guidance.

That is general evaluation guidance, not a certification of a particular site. GIGW says evaluators manually test the checkpoint and use an accessibility extension, browser plug-in, or web accessibility tool. A screenshot alone cannot perform or prove that evaluation.

Stay within the page’s access rules
Puppeteer supports mouse, touch, and keyboard interactions, but the documentation does not establish CAPTCHA-specific instructions or permission to automate any particular Indian government website. If access is blocked, consult that site’s terms and support channels. This guide is about capturing the page that is displayed, not bypassing or automatically solving a challenge.

- Navigation times out: the page may keep requests open or load slowly. Check whether the intended content rendered before deciding whether to save a screenshot; a timeout is not proof that no page appeared.
- The screenshot misses the CAPTCHA: check whether it is below the fold, delayed, or inside a specific element. Try
fullPage, wait for a relevant page element, or capture the matching element. - The element screenshot fails: confirm the selector matches an attached element at capture time. A changing page can remove or replace the target; wait for the intended element and retry only when appropriate.
- The challenge looks too small: use a viewport capture or clip tightly around the challenge. A full-page image can make a small CAPTCHA difficult to inspect.
- The page shows an access block: record the visible state if permitted, then check the site’s terms or contact its support. Do not treat screenshot code as a way to defeat the block.
