Wait for the browser’s font-loading set to settle before capturing: navigate to the page, await document.fonts.ready, then call page.screenshot(). This helps avoid capturing Bengali text while requested web fonts are still loading, but it does not prove that the intended font or every Bengali glyph rendered correctly.

Take a one-off screenshot after fonts settle

In a Playwright script, navigate to the target URL, wait on the browser’s font readiness promise, then save the screenshot:

await page.goto(url);
await page.evaluate(() => document.fonts.ready);
await page.screenshot({ path: 'bengali.png', fullPage: true });

This combines Playwright navigation, page evaluation, and screenshot methods with the browser API document.fonts.ready. The promise resolves after fonts used by the document have finished loading or failed. It is a browser-level readiness technique, not a Playwright-specific guarantee. See the Playwright Page API for current navigation and screenshot options.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use fullPage: true when the image should include the full scrollable page. Omit it to capture the current viewport. Check the current Page API for available image formats, scale settings, and other screenshot options.

Use a visual assertion for a maintained baseline

If this is a visual regression test and you have Playwright Test configured with a reference image, use its screenshot assertion rather than saving an artifact alone:

await page.goto(url);
await page.evaluate(() => document.fonts.ready);
await expect(page).toHaveScreenshot('bengali.png');

expect(page).toHaveScreenshot() is a Playwright Test feature. It retries until two consecutive screenshots match, then compares the last capture with the expected image. That helps avoid comparing a transient capture, but it does not establish that the chosen font or glyphs are correct. See the Playwright visual comparisons guide.

What font readiness does—and does not—confirm

When document.fonts.ready resolves, the document’s font-loading set has settled: the fonts used by the document have loaded or failed. A failed font can leave text rendered with a fallback. The promise also does not verify that the selected font contains every Bengali glyph or that the resulting text looks right.

  • Inspect the saved screenshot for missing, substituted, or unexpectedly shaped Bengali characters.
  • If the result looks wrong, investigate font requests and the page’s CSS font selection instead of treating a resolved promise as proof of correct rendering. Playwright lists font as a request resource type; see its Request API.
  • The available evidence does not establish a specific Bengali font family, glyph-coverage guarantee, or Bengali rendering benchmark. Choose a font appropriate to the page and verify the actual output.

Make screenshots comparable across machines

Browser screenshots can differ across browsers and platforms because rendering, fonts, and other environmental factors vary. Create and compare visual baselines in a consistent environment, including the browser and host platform. A mismatch across environments is not automatically evidence that the page’s content changed; first check whether the rendering environment changed.

Avoid fixed sleeps as a font-loading substitute

A fixed delay such as waitForTimeout(2000) only waits for a chosen amount of time. It does not confirm that the page’s fonts have settled, and the page may load more slowly or finish sooner. Playwright discourages page.waitForTimeout() in production tests because time-based tests are inherently flaky. Prefer a readiness signal tied to the work—in this case, document.fonts.ready.

Troubleshooting

Bengali text still appears wrong after the wait

The font may have failed to load, CSS may be selecting a fallback, or the chosen font may not cover the characters in question. Inspect the screenshot and font requests, then verify the page’s font declarations and assets. Font readiness alone cannot distinguish a correct Bengali rendering from a fallback.

The capture differs between local and CI runs

Confirm that both runs use the same browser and host platform, and keep those conditions stable when generating and checking reference images. Differences in fonts and rendering environments can change screenshot pixels.

The visual assertion fails intermittently

Make sure the font wait runs before the assertion and use the Playwright Test screenshot assertion, which waits for consecutive matching captures. Avoid substituting an arbitrary sleep for readiness. If the environment or page content changes between runs, investigate that variation before updating the reference image.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://example.com -o shot.webp

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for the access key and request options. ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners as a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does document.fonts.ready guarantee Bengali glyph coverage?

No. It indicates that the document’s font-loading set has settled, not that the selected font contains every glyph or that the text looks correct.

Should I use page.screenshot() or toHaveScreenshot()?

Use page.screenshot() to save a one-off capture. Use expect(page).toHaveScreenshot() in Playwright Test when comparing against a reference image.
