For a page whose content is already loaded, capture the entire document with await page.screenshot({ path: 'full-page.png', fullPage: true });. If the site loads more content only as you scroll, first scroll through the page or its relevant scrollable container and wait for that content to appear; then take the full-page screenshot.
Capture the full page
Playwright’s page-level screenshot option fullPage: true captures the full scrollable page rather than just the current viewport. The default is false. See the Page screenshot API.
await page.screenshot({ path: 'full-page.png', fullPage: true });This is sufficient when all the page content is already in the DOM. A full-page screenshot does not, by itself, guarantee that content which loads in response to scrolling has been fetched. For an infinite list or another scroll-triggered page, scroll to trigger loading first, then capture.

Choose a scrolling method based on how the page works. Playwright notes that “Most of the time, Playwright will automatically scroll for you before doing any actions.” Explicit scrolling is useful when you need to trigger lazy or infinite content before taking the screenshot. Scroll a known target into view
If a footer or another known element is at the bottom, scroll it into view. This can also trigger content loading as the page moves down.

await page.screenshot({ path: 'full-page.png', fullPage: true });Replace 'Footer text' with text that identifies an element on the page. This approach depends on the target existing; on a page with an infinite list and no known final element, use repeated scrolling instead.
Scroll with the mouse wheel
Hover the area that should scroll, then send wheel input. For example:

await page.mouse.wheel(0, 10);The wheel delta in this example is small. Repeat scrolling as needed for the page’s behavior, and verify that new content has appeared before capturing. A fixed number of wheel steps or a fixed delay is not reliable for every site.
Scroll a nested container
When the page has a separately scrolling list, panel, or other container, adjust that element’s scroll position rather than assuming the document is the active scroller.

Use a wait condition that matches the page
After scrolling, wait for evidence that the content you need has loaded: for example, a specific item to appear or a loading indicator to disappear. The appropriate condition depends on the site. The Playwright scrolling guide does not prescribe one universal loop or delay, so avoid treating a hard-coded sleep as proof that loading is complete.

Choose the screenshot scope
- Entire document: use
page.screenshot({ fullPage: true })when the output should include the full scrollable page. - Current viewport: omit
fullPageor set it tofalsewhen you want only what is currently visible. - One component: use a locator screenshot when the artifact should be a specific element rather than the whole document. Playwright discourages the older
elementHandle.screenshot()approach in favor of locator-based screenshots. For a scrollable element, the ElementHandle documentation says only the content currently scrolled into view appears in that element’s screenshot. See ElementHandle screenshot documentation.
Troubleshooting
The screenshot misses content that appears after scrolling
fullPage: true captures the page’s scrollable extent, but it does not ensure scroll-triggered content has loaded. Scroll through the relevant area first, then wait for a meaningful page condition such as the expected item appearing.
The page does not move
The active scroller may be a nested container rather than the document. Target that container with a locator and adjust its scrollTop, or hover the intended scroll area before using page.mouse.wheel().
The element screenshot contains only part of a long panel
A locator screenshot targets an element, not an instruction to capture every off-screen item inside a scrollable container. Scroll the container to the portion you need, or capture the full page if the desired output is the entire document.

Visual output differs between runs
Rendering can vary with the operating system, software version, settings, hardware, power source, and headless mode. For visual comparisons, Playwright recommends creating baselines and comparing in the same environment. See Visual comparisons.
