Use your browser’s built-in full-page capture: Firefox calls it Save full page, Microsoft Edge offers Screenshot > Capture full page, and Chrome provides Capture a full size screenshot in DevTools. These commands capture content below the visible screen, unlike a normal laptop screenshot, which records only the current viewport.
Choose the instructions for the browser you are using. You do not need a special laptop accessory or paid extension.
What a full webpage screenshot captures
A full-page screenshot combines the webpage from top to bottom into one image, including sections you would normally have to scroll to see. A standard operating-system screenshot captures only what is visible on the display at that instant. Zooming the page out is not equivalent: it changes the page layout and still does not guarantee that every section, image, or dynamically loaded element appears.
Before capturing, scroll through the page once if it loads content as you move down. Let images, fonts, and embedded sections finish loading, then use the browser’s full-page command. After saving, inspect the image for missing sections, duplicated content, or overlays.

Firefox: use Save full page
Firefox has a direct page-screenshot tool on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Mozilla documents both a context-menu route and keyboard shortcuts.
- Open the webpage in Firefox.
- Right-click an empty area of the page and select Take Screenshot. On Windows or Linux, you can also press Ctrl+Shift+S; on macOS, press Command+Shift+S.
- In the screenshot bar at the upper right, select Save full page. Do not choose Save visible unless you only want the portion currently on screen.
- Choose the download control to save a PNG in Firefox’s normal download location, or copy the image to the clipboard and paste it into another application.
Mozilla’s instructions distinguish the full-page and visible-area choices in its Firefox screenshot guide. If the context menu does not show the command, click the page first, ensure you are not right-clicking a browser control, and retry the shortcut.
Firefox results and practical checks
- The saved file is a PNG according to Mozilla’s current support documentation.
- Full-page mode includes content below the fold; visible mode does not.
- Use clipboard copy when you need to paste the capture directly into an editor, ticket, or document.
- For a very long page, open the saved PNG and check its bottom edge before sharing it.
Microsoft Edge: capture the full page
Edge’s Screenshot feature can capture a complete webpage, including content that would otherwise require scrolling. Microsoft says the feature can be opened from the page’s right-click menu or with Ctrl+Shift+S.
- Open the page in Microsoft Edge.
- Right-click inside the page and choose Screenshot, or press Ctrl+Shift+S.
- Select the full-page capture option in the screenshot overlay.
- Review the resulting image. Use the available markup tools if you need to draw, highlight, or crop.
- Choose Copy to put the image on the clipboard or Save to write it to a file.

Edge states that moving items such as videos, GIFs, or carousels remain active during capture. The resulting image is therefore a snapshot of one moment, not a recording of every animation frame. Pause a carousel or video first if a particular frame matters, then capture and inspect the saved result.

Chrome: use DevTools’ full-size screenshot command
Chrome places its full-page image command in DevTools. The device toolbar is optional, but it lets you set a viewport size before capturing.
- Open the webpage in Google Chrome.
- Open DevTools. You can use Chrome’s browser menu, or the usual developer-tools shortcut for your operating system.
- In DevTools, open the device toolbar if you need to simulate a particular viewport width or height.
- Open the DevTools More options menu (the three-dot menu in the DevTools toolbar).
- Choose Capture a full size screenshot.
Chrome’s instructions for device mode and full-size capture are in Google Chrome for Developers’ device-mode documentation. The command captures the whole page, including content outside the visible viewport.
Viewport choices and device-mode limits
Changing the device-toolbar dimensions changes the screenshot’s CSS viewport, which is useful for checking responsive layouts. Device mode is only a first-order approximation of a mobile device; it is not a test running on physical mobile hardware. It does not reproduce every difference in mobile browsers, sensors, performance, or network conditions.

The cited Chrome documentation does not specify one universal file format or download folder for every Chrome release. After choosing the command, confirm where your installed version saved the image and verify the file before closing the tab.

Use the browser that already has the page open unless you need a specific viewport or annotation workflow. Menu names can change with updates; if a shortcut fails, open the browser’s main menu or the page context menu and look for screenshot, capture, full page, or full size.

Before you capture: a reliable checklist
- Finish loading: wait for the page’s images, fonts, and embedded content to appear.
- Trigger lazy content: scroll through the page once when sections load only after entering the viewport.
- Close obstructive UI: dismiss sign-in prompts, cookie dialogs, chat bubbles, and newsletter popups when possible.
- Choose the right mode: select full page or full size, not visible area.
- Stabilize motion: pause videos or carousels if a specific frame is important.
- Check privacy: remove account details, private messages, addresses, or tokens before sharing the image.
- Inspect the output: open the file and check the top, middle, and bottom for clipping, blank regions, or repeated sections.
Limits and troubleshooting
The result contains only what was visible
You probably selected Save visible or an ordinary operating-system screenshot. Reopen the browser tool and select Save full page, Capture full page, or Capture a full size screenshot. A full-page command is different from pressing Print Screen or taking a snip of the display.
Images or sections are missing
Many sites defer image and component loading until you scroll near them. Scroll from top to bottom, wait for each section to render, then retry. If the page requires a login, confirm that the session is still active. Privacy extensions, blocked scripts, or a slow connection can also prevent content from rendering; temporarily test with the site’s required scripts allowed, subject to your security policy.
The page is extremely long
Very long pages can produce large images and may behave differently across browser versions. Capture after the page settles, save the result, and inspect it at several points. If the browser becomes unresponsive, capture logical sections separately or use a dedicated capture service rather than repeatedly retrying a page that exceeds your browser’s practical limits.
A cookie banner, chat widget, or popup covers the page
Dismiss the overlay before capture. If it cannot be dismissed, hide it with the site’s controls or capture after it disappears. Remember that a screenshot records what the page presents at that moment; it does not reconstruct content hidden behind an overlay.
Animated content looks different each time
A screenshot is a single instant. Edge specifically says moving videos, GIFs, and carousels remain active during its capture. Pause the animation, wait for the desired slide, and take another capture if consistency matters.

Chrome’s command is hard to find
Make sure DevTools is open and that you are using the DevTools toolbar’s More options menu, not Chrome’s main three-dot menu. Opening the device toolbar is optional; the full-size command remains in DevTools.

The shortcut does nothing
Keyboard shortcuts can be intercepted by the operating system, a managed browser policy, or another application. Use the context menu or browser menu instead. On Edge and Firefox, confirm that the page itself has focus before pressing the shortcut.
Safari instructions
A current, authoritative Safari procedure for saving a full webpage as one image was not established in the documentation used for this guide. Safari’s page-capture options can differ between macOS versions and between image and PDF workflows, so do not assume that an iPhone or iPad full-page process applies to a laptop. Use the verified Firefox, Edge, or Chrome route above when you need a documented full-page image.
When a browser capture is not enough
Built-in tools are ideal for an occasional manual image. A repeatable workflow may need a fixed viewport, authenticated headers, custom cookies, delayed rendering, PDF output, element-only capture, or hundreds of URLs. In those cases, an API avoids opening each page and manually operating DevTools.
